It's not that no one wants to admit it, it's that he's asking all wrong....remember in "Deliverance" when the guy walks out of the house and one eye is looking one direction and the other eye is looking about 180 from that??? and he asks, "Who's a pickin' the banjy here!!!!!!!"

Kidding aside, it aint me...I got about as much musical talent as a snapping turtle, but I always did like the banjo. I just read the other day that it was an African instrument brought to America by slaves.

Billy Redden might play ten instruments now, but at the time "Deliverance" was filmed the banjo wasn't one of them...when they filmed the movie "Deliverance" Billy Redden sat on the swing with his arms somehow hidden. The actual banjo player was behind him and reached under his arms and played the banjo for that famous scene. I can't remember the guys name, but at the time I believe he was regarded as the best banjo player in the world.

Could someone please explain the two finger, three finger and claw hammer methods of playing??? What's the difference or why would you play/learn one over the other??? Is it just preference????
Like it or love it, the banjo truly has a sound all it's own and there's nothing else like it.

I can't play and never liked the banjo until my nephew learned how to play. He started at age ten and just made noise that was almost unbearable. Didn't take him long to take hold of it though. I love listeneng to him now. He has been playing around six years now and can flat tear that thing up. He has 5 banjos now and 3 were won in competition. He can't read music but he listens and can play anything With almost anybody. He has played on stage with a couple of bigger names in music around here such as Raymond Fairchild etc. If your interested check out you tube hillbilly Chris sexton or shindig on the green 2013 in Asheville nc with his grandfather. At age 16 He now plays with a group that travels to from GA to PA and pays him well. I'm very proud of him and admire his talent.
