Shout Out
I am hoping to see the English Hounds rise to the top once again. I am especial pulley for a couple of Big River dogs.
1st-Gr.Nt.Ch. Big River Dan from Georgia. He has done a lot of winning, he is a seasoned hound. This should help minimize any mistakes, He Hunts off to himself if possible, and a good steady accurate tree dog. I hunted against him last fall at AO and really liked him and his owner Mr. Mark Looney.
2nd-Big River Jessie WHO, Though I have never hunted with this hound, I have known his owner, Mr. Rory Cowels, for a few years now. Rory and his dogs have been to this big dance several times before, and have won the whole shooting match a few years back with a dog called Big River Jessie, and have made the final 4 with a dog named Big River Jessie Lee, and probably many more that I don't know about. Both Rory and Marks are great guys to represent the efforts of the English breed, and I hope to see both of them in the final 4.
Another hound I'm pulling for belongs to another great English Fancier, Mr. Eddie Lemon from West Virginia. This hound is none other than Gr.Nt.Ch. John the Bathis, being handled by Mr. Greg Piatt. This John dog makes it happen and I mean right now. Greg has been connected to some of the legendary english hound that helped to build the foundation of the of the Main Street hounds that have made their mark in not only the English History, but at the world hunt level for many of the past few years. Eddie is a Great guy to talk to and deal with, Greg is ,even at his current age, (sorry Greg but I couldn't resist) one of the hardest hunters in the state of Ohio, and Big John is out of two of the finest coon treeing hounds you could ask for from the hills of west Virginia to the flat lands of Indiana, so watch out for these guys too.
I'm sure there are some more good English dogs very capable of winning this whole thing, but I have not yet had the good fortunes of meeting these people or hunting with their hounds. So there you have it from these hills of SE Ohio. These are my favorites to win the 2014 World Coonhound Championship. Good Luck to all, especial to my friends, and even to my Buddy Mr. Bill Wooten, who is hunting a fine walker hound. I can say that even though I have never hunted with her, Cause Bill is always packing a good one.
