Calendar Hounds Wanted!
Coonhound Companions ( www.coonhoundcompanions.com ) is seeking photos for our 2015 Coonhound and Foxhound Wall Calendar. Your dog doesn’t have to be extraordinarily beautiful or have papers--it just has to look like a coonhound or foxhound and the photo has to be crisp, high-resolution, appealing, and clutter free. All coonhound and foxhound breeds and mixes between coonhound and foxhound breeds (grade hounds) may be included.
Send candidates to jdunham@texas.net .
One email per photo file please.
Put "CALENDAR - Dog's Name - Your Name - Your State or Province" in the email subject line.
DEADLINE: September 15, 2014, but please send photos ASAP
GUIDELINES AND TIPS:
1) Go to our CafePress store http://www.cafepress.com/coonhoundcompanions/10892337 to see our calendars from 2013 and 2014. We want pictures at least as good as those.
2) We especially need photos of hounds:
in action. We got lots of good pictures of sleeping hounds, but can only use a few.
posed for either full body shots or headshots.
displaying a bond with people or with other animals.
interacting with children.
against a colorful backdrop or in spectacular scenery.
of all ages, from puppies to gray muzzles
photos with snow in them for the winter months
of all coonhound and foxhound breeds and strains
Hunting shots are welcome, but Coonhound Companions’ mission is to promote coonhounds as pets, so shots of blood and gore, hounds chewing on fur or foaming are unlikely to be selected. Treeing hounds are great, as long as the lighting is adequate.
3) When taking photos of your dog in action, take multiple shots and choose the best one or two to submit.
4) In general, the photos most likely to be selected will be taken from the same level as the dog. Sit, kneel, or squat to be at eye level with the dog. Focus on the eyes. However, if the dog(s) are at a distance, photos taken from a standing position will work. When in doubt, send us the pic. The more we have to choose from, the better the calendar will be.
5) Horizontal format is preferred. We will use only one vertical shot, for the December/holiday page. You do not need to crop the photo yourself--we can do that.
6) Keep the background simple, without distractions. We can Photoshop out some clutter, but other background mess may be hard to fix. In general, simpler is better.
7) Before submitting your photo for our calendar, view the photo on your computer. Now "zoom in" a few times to see if the subject stays in focus. If it is borderline, it is unlikely to be selected unless the blurring is indicative of some sort of action or serves some other artistic purpose.
8) Do NOT crop or resize the photo for emailing. The more pixels, the better the photo will blow up to wall calendar size. Picture files must be a minimum of 1,500 KB, but more is better.
Note: Most cell phones are not high enough resolution (KB number) for this purpose. A few newer phones have high-resolution cameras. Best to use a digital camera for stop action and high resolution.
9) If you submit photos with people in them, we need their written permission to publish the photo. E-mailed permission is ok.
10) You will not be paid for your photo. Coonhound and Foxhound Companions is a nonprofit organization. Our aim is to promote coonhounds and foxhounds as pets to help get homeless hounds from shelters into good homes. We do not expect to raise funds from calendar sales, only to advance our cause.
Please start sending in your photos ASAP! If your photo is selected for the 2015 calendar, you will hear from us by the end of October.
Calendars will go on sale in our CafePress store around Thanksgiving.
