I just put one on a pup that is not quite 6 months. I didn't really want to but it worked instantly and you take it off, she's right back barking again. I don't anticipate any long term detrimental effect.

Here's tha thing. You can't just let them bark. It's like switching a dog off a slick tree, you hear guys say they are afraid it will make their dog quit treeing. Well, first of all, it won't and secondly, so what? A slick treeing dog is no less worthless than a dog that won't tree. An unstoppable kennel barker is no less worthless than a dog that won't bark in the woods. You will get a lot of different answers on this one but when it is all said and done, the only one that WORKS is the bark collar.
I've gotten my best service out of the rechargeable Dogtra.

Bark Collar is better then switching. You need to figure out why is he barking and then try to meet those needs. Could be attention, boredom, pent up energy. Meeting those needs combined with the bark collar and some patience. I've found it may take some time as well, barking is one of the harder things I found to break, easy in some dogs, but can pretty tough in others.

Corporal punishment is prolly the best way to handle it until they wake you (or your neighbors) up at 2:00AM, then you start thinking the bark collar us the way to go.
