Owens Hardwood Bozo

In your opinion was he a big enough impact on the walker breed to make an effort on making Bozo blood the center of a breeding program. Do you think it would benifit the breed?

Thanks
Eric

Eric,it will be hard to find anything of any quality to breed to that doesn't have Bozo blood in it somewhere.Probably influenced more line for less breeding then any walker in history.

Bozo was and still is very influential.More than one strain of Walkers used Bozo as a foundation sire.

These message boards keep me confused. I read on here about BOZO and the impact he made to the Walker dogs and I agree he made an impact. Then I read on here that Timothy Ball is nothing but a braggard and blow hard and wouldn't know a coondog if it bit him in the butt. BOZO is out of Timothy Balls dog Hickory Nut Harry for those of you that need a history lesson.
We can't have it both ways!!!
Matter a fact between old Harry's offspring and Stylish Harry's offspring I don' think any one man has made more of a positive impact on the Treeing Walker Breed.
Why can't we recgonize good dogs and good dog men for what they are?

You have never heard me knock Tim Ball's breeding ability or knowledge of dogs. The only problem I have ever had with Timothy Ball is the bragging,he has very good dogs,he has owned several dogs that anybody would be proud to own one of in their lifetime. He has also owned dogs such as Logchain Leroy and Wildman Willie that he said at the time were the best dogs to ever walk the face of the earth, infact every dog that he has was advertised was the best. There are a ton of breeders out there raising quality dogs that do it without bragging. And yes it is still bagging, even if you can back it up.

Tim Ball's knowledge has never been in question; neither has the fact that he has owned some tremendous dog power.

In fact, I don't even know of anybody that has said he ever did them wrong or lied to them. On the contrary, I have friends who say he has dealt straight up with them.

His advertising style, though, is a little too flamboyant for some. It is, however, effective for him. That isn't arguable either.

I always say I don't care for it myself, but I can't help but read his ads, either.

I have Grandpups of Bozo, and most of my dogs go back to him 6 or 7 times. I would say he helped put a lot of the Good and Bad traits in dogs Today. PRESSURE TREEING = Good,, Babbling = BAD

I think this is being done already. I think you have as intense line breeding there is in the walker breed happening with some Wipeout hounds. BOZO is sitting there in the background.

Here is what I find interesting. Yes back then BOZO made a difference. Why because like most dogs that stamp their puppies his consistently bought characteristics to the table that made them winners in their day and TIME. They also had problems like every other strain of hounds. Today I truly feel you can find the same winning characteristics without the problems.

Back to the wipeout hounds. There are some outstanding ones but the knocks on the sorry ones are the same characteristics the BOZO dogs bought to the table.

Interesting Post, and several of the folks are right on the money in my opinion..

Engman, John Carrol and Bruce are particularly on the right track.

Bozo threw a number of stud dogs that stamped their pups as strongly as he did Clover and Nite Heat-(someone double check me on Clover he's Bozo and not old Harry correct? getting old!! )come to mind readily. I'm sure there were several more and a high percentage of his pups made coon dogs..I think however the credit has to go back to old Hickory nut Harry. He threw some awful tough hounds, but brought a lot of baggage along with those good hounds. I owned a dog directly out of old Harry and two Grandson's and they were darn good ones. But all had their downside and it was considerable. I'd give a lot of money to have old CB back alive again and be two years old though, the growly, tight mouthed old booger!!

If someone breeds a litter of strong up close Bozo hounds I would take a pup as long as they don't look like the old man!!

I ain't gonna say that Old Harry ain't a big influence on Bozo bred hounds, because he is in there just as many times as Bozo is............but,I aint gonna say he is either.
Take Sackett Jr. for example,Jr. was without a doubt one of the greatest reproducers to ever live, and there are many, many hounds in the mags today that are out of Jr. that are reproducing as well.
I read in an article a couple three years ago where Frank Giddings said Old Sackett never reproduced very well.
Sackett Jr. is the only reproducer that old Sackett ever reproduced.
To be honest about it,Bozo is the only big reproducer I can think of that is a direct son of Old Harry, and Old Harry was bred a heck of a lot more that Old Sackett.
Something to think about.

Engman, sure can't argue with your logic. Old Harry produced a lot more pups for sure.

Love or hate Timothy Ball he's a first class business man and could teach a graduate course in marketing, My hat's certainly off to him.

Old Harry was a much better looking dog (in my opinion) than Bozo and had a lot more ink ran on him..

I'm hunting a Sackett Jr. bred dog (out of Elvis attack) and see a lot of good things. I was fortunate enough to hunt with Sackett Jr a couple of times, he was a flat nice hound.

Good hunting to all!!!
