Ole Striker

Jim,

The stories I've heard about that old hound are legendary. I expect somewhere along the line, they were mostly true! I've never known a coon hunter to lie.

Only 1 thing that would be better then those dogs pictures.
And that would be a life size engraving of Marv with Sod Buster.

I think Striker's official UKC name was Kentucky River Strick, or something like that.

Striker sired PacMan.

Striker was either a son or grandson of the immortal Gann's Finisher, one of the absolute best walkers in history

Wayne Green was one of the first "slick" handlers in the hey day of competition hunts. I think Wayne and Striker won a bunch of the old PCA hunts. Didn't David Juvers end up buying Striker? I think Juvers was the infamous slingshot fake cooneyes into tree guy?!

ole striker

I hunted a lot of nights with him and if he would come along today the impact he would have would be huge. I have hunted with all different lines people are breeding up and nothing compares to striker as a track dog and his ability to have them coon looking down at you when you walked in to them trees . Bellar took a lot of bets to hunt against him some showed up and some shut up. And yes to this day we had a lot of laughs with that dude.

I remember back in 1975, first 3 hunts I entered in, I drew a Joe Rutherford,, at 15 years old I learned fast what "Handling" was all about, Thank God I didn't draw him again that summer,, That was an Education of UKC's rules,,,

Russ has done a lot for this sport,, was always a gentleman to draw at the hunts, I like the rock idea, is good to see the history preserved

I would like to know that too!

A Bellar dog that doesn't get mentioned a whole lot is the Handsome Harry dog. He died young, but have heard from a couple hunters that I respect that he was a freak.

I have drawn Pac Man 2 times in the chase for the world, I honestly came away with the impression both times that he was a straight up coon dog, I have heard some negative stores about Pac, but I never seen it from him, I don't think you would have pushed Pac off a tree, but my younger hound stayed with him both nights and never seemed nervous,, Now about the famous Mr. Morrie N. Oh Man,, I have drawn him many times also and just quoted the rule with a smile on my face as he tried his tricks. I though he was just entertaining, With a real coon dog and knowledge of the rules, he was harmless,, Morrie never packed a real coon dog that I saw, and never won the casts I drew him on,,

I grew up not far down the road from Russ. My dad always said Shep threw more tree dogs. I never hunted with either I was young and hunted hunts but not against either of them. At that time it was KY River Buck that was his main dog. Love the Rock next time I go up to visit mom and dad I will have todrive past his place to see that rock.
