Underutilized Redbone studs?

What dogs looking back could have been bred to more to help our breed?

NITECH 'PR' Krasa Sawblade Quickstuff Bone, 34 pups and had a reproducing percentage of like 18% (Doc X Fiddle)

Bone was a brother to Woody's mother Renard, Jon Henry's mother Mandolin, the Reckon female that produced Dean Daughtry's Bubba dog, and Fiddle II that produced Little Man and Miss Piggy.

Out of 34 pups, Bone produced 3 GRNTCH's and 3 NTCH's, and only ever had pups off three different females

Tim, everyone in that other kennel club knew who I was but they didn't have any Redbone females. I used to think that if you had a real nice stud then everyone would just automatically breed their females to him. I found out that wasn't true so I have a new plan.

I think they're all underrated to a degree to be perfectly honest, we have a great breed and ALOT of great studs out there

Maybe we just need more good females to breed to them.

Couldn't agree with you more, seems like everyone is promoting stud dogs & not females...

If have to say a lot of folks forget Sulphur River Buck, Sandy Creek Jake, Outlaw Jack, & a few others... Also I'm a Timber Jack fan, wish there was semen put up on a few of those dogs that could be got!

Dual Grand Champion Amos' Burning Ben.....direct son of Gr.Nt.Ch. Famous Amos x Gr.Nt.Ch. Millers red Betsy
Ben produced 8 Grand Nites from only 101 pups and most of those went on to become reproducers themselves that continue to show up in many dogs pedigrees to this day.

Agreed. Or buy a pup off of a good female instead of the theory that a good stud will/should make up for the lack thereof on the maternal side.

Unsung Studs

GRNTCH South Branch Midnite Pete.

Pete was one of the first, "real" redbones I hunted with. I've to this day never seen a dog like that. Ultra competitive, hard going and I believe would literally chase a coon off of a cliff.

Reproduced over ten percent and struggled to get over 100 pups. Had all the traits that Redbones could have used.

Nostalgia is fun, but can be a real disease though. Always move forward. The breed is in a really nice place right now and a lot of hard working folks have put it there. It has definitely improved since the first few redbones I hunted with.

My Pete dog was one of the best I have owned. So much drive. He lived to hunt and tracked to catch. I wish there was more Pete offspring out there.

Isn't Pete the Grandsire of the current #6 Top Producing Female? And Chris, nostalgia is all some of us old guys have. Is it kinda like Oldtimers Disease? I can remember hunting with Mongo like it was yesterday but I can't remember my hunts from last week. I think that it has something to do with me wanting to forget my hunts last week.

I have a great female that I am looking to breed to a great stud. We have started out with small time hunts and shows with the kids and they love it. I love the fact they have also gotten a lot of there friends into the sport as well.

Her name is Sierra's smoking little Angel

There are some reproduceing redbone males out there now that are not getting very many females bred to them, that down the road will make an impact on the redbone breed.
