Hunt Scenario/Question

Two dog cast. Dogs strike coon while on leash, handlers agree to split strike points and turn loose. Dogs run coon 250 yards. Dog A declared treed, immediately followed by Dog B. Handlers head in to tree. About 150yds. from the tree, handlers hear a coon squall, both dogs still tree barking. About 75yds. from tree, both dogs shut up. Handlers get within sight, and find Dog A with the coon in it's mouth on the edge of a field. Dog B is about 25yds away in the edge of the woods. Dog B barks 3 or 4 times, then returns to handlers. How would you score Dog B?

I have been there and done that. My dog had the coon and the other handlers ran their dogs down and caught them 50-75 yds from my dog. They plussed all dog's strike points so I questioned it and MOH upheld plussing all dogs.

I was on another cast and all dogs were struck and shut up but we heard one dog growling so we went to him and he had killed 2 kitten coons and was standing over them. We plussed that dogs strike and as we walked away my dog came back in so they minused his strike points. I guess that it just depends on where you are and who you are hunting with.

I would think dog B would be minused on strike and tree, dog B wasn't at a tree when you arrived so minus tree, and wasn't at the coon caught on the ground, made a few barks in the woods and came back in,so minus on strike for coming back in.

Is dog B handled at the caught coon?
If the judge had him handle his dog and felt both dogs were in on the catch, i would plus both dogs strilke points and delete their trees.

No, Dog B was just out of sight in the edge of the woods, about 25 yards from the dead coon. Don't know for sure, but I'd say Dog A drug the coon out of the woods away from where they had been treeing... I was the judge, and I'd say it was pretty clear that Dog B was in on the catch...

Even if dog B is in on the catch, wouldn't it still be minused strike for leaving since it didn't stay? I'd have a hard time scoring on something I thought instead of what I saw when I walked in.

I understand what most are thinking and it sure I don't agree with you but ukc says on caught coon all dogs in the area. Interpret that I guess as you will. If the dog got the coon and left from where the other dog was and I was convinced of that sure I would plus both without being there I can't answer

If the dogs were declared treed and obviously treeing before getting the coon than there tree points stand and are plussed up. As for the dog that was off it would have to be cast decision for those there if the dog was in the area and actually involved on getting the coon. That's a call you actually have to see to make accurately. A similar scenario is in the 2014 advisor for those doubters.

coon has to be in a place of refuge to get tree points. If they pull it out before you get there it's strike points only

Like I said read the advisor or call ukc. I thought the same thing turns out I'd been scoring it wrong for years. There going to tell you that it's not the dogs fault they got the coon out of the dwelling.

allen or todd one covered this not long ago. A caught coon does not receive tree pints unless you see them pull it from place of refuge
