one eye dog

While hunting last night my Go Go fm run a stick into her eye and damage the eye to the point the eye needs removed. My question is for those who has dealt with this is what was the effects it had on the dog.

Never dealt with it but have hunted with a couple of good one eyed hounds over the years Mr Duncan. Just always let them know when you about to handle them on the blind side.

I hunted with a blind dog year`s ago. Don't know what he was like before he went blind, but he did good when I hunted with him.

never had one that was blinded that old. either born that way or got into trouble as a young pup. never noticed any problems as they got old. still made good dogs. good luck.

....

The 1,250 dollars to get eye removed little hard on the wallet but id spent 5 times that to replace her. Bad part was I hunted her with that stick stuck in her eye for couple hours after it happen and didn't figure it out why she was acting different. She's one tough son of a gun.

Lloyd- I've hunted with two, both males, that became very touchy about approaching them from the blind side. The one male became very aggressive about that and he had to watch handling him at the tree. The dog was a hard tree dog to start.

....

Vet was talking like it would be ok to hunt her at black an tan days which surprised me. I ask a lot out of dogs I hunt but id think that be asking to much of her. Think I'll just let her kick back for a few weeks and get accustom to seeing with one eye and eases her back into hunting. With any luck I can get her last wins and grand her this summer and let her raise a litter of pups.

OH OUCH!

Just wanted to let you know we're sending prayers for good recovery and Great hunts ahead. Should not effect her hunting a bit...from what we've seen in other comp. animals. We have had a number of one eyed horses here do great and even totally blind in one or BOTH! Amazing how they adapt!
DOnt feel so bad about the continued hunting. Same thing happens with other dawgs...and horses too..that keep going WELL injured... amazing...how they LOVE their "jobs" and what they are bred for!

Good luck and HappyHunting, Heather and Bob
