Kansas Federation of Houndsmen State Hunt will be held on Friday, April 11th and 12th. It will be held in Valley Falls, Kansas at the Jefferson County Fair Grounds. Northeast Kansas Coonhunters is the host club. To be eligible for prizes both owner and handler have to be members of the Kansas Federation of Houndsmen. The following is the tentative schedule and list of prizes:

Friday April 11th; Bench Show Deadline 3:00pm $15
Prizes for the following classes will be given on Friday
Best Male plaque/lead
Best Female plaque/lead
Ch Male plaque/lead
Ch Female plaque/lead
GrCh Male plaque/lead
GrCh Female plaque/lead
All Friday winners will be eligible to show for State Show Champion on Saturday

Friday April 11th; NiteHunt Deadline 7:00pm $20
Prizes for the following classes will be given on Friday
Open 1st through 5th plaque/lead
NiteCh 1st through 3rd plaque/lead
GrNiteCh 1st plaque/lead
High Scoring Youth plaque/lead

Saturday April 12th Kansas Federation of Houndsmen yearly membership meeting. 12:00 Noon
Elections for officers will be held at the meeting. The location for the next State Hunt and Youth State Championship will also be decided.

Saturday April 12th; Free Youth Bench Show (unlicensed) following regular Bench Show
This show will be unlicensed and no places given. All youth who enter will receive a medal.

Saturday April 12th; NiteHunt Deadline 7:00pm $20
Open 1st through 5th plaque/lead
NiteCh 1st through 3rd plaque/lead
GrNiteCh 1st plaque/lead
High Scoring Youth plaque/lead
High Scoring Opposite Sex light/dog food/plaque/lead
Kansas State Hunt Champion light/dog food/plaque/lead

The Kansas State Hunt Champion title will be awarded to the dog with the highest combined score over two nights and has double cast wins. If no dog has double cast wins the title will go to the dog with the highest score from either night.

Memberships to the Kansas Federation of Houndsmen will be sold both days and are $10 a year and $50 for Lifetime

The Kansas Federation of Houndsmen was reactivated after years of dormancy on December 8, 2012. On the second weekend of April 2012, we held our first state hunt in Scranton, Kansas and it was a great success. Then on October 12, 2013, in Valley Falls, Kansas the Northeast Kansas Coonhunters hosted our State Youth Hunt. It was also what we considered a success with a total of 52 dogs entered in the hunt and show. Let's try to make both of these hunts better than the ones last year. There have been many individuals in the past year who have worked to bring the federation back on line as well as put on these two great hunts. The facilities are terrific and the hunting is really good in this area. All of the food will be provide by a local 4-H club and it is always good. This is a time for all of us hound lovers to come together for good hunting and fellowship. I hope to see many of you that participated in last years hunt and I hope we see new faces as well. On Saturday,there will be a general membership meeting and new officers will be elected. Lots of prizes to all winners. Call if you have questions or need help finding a motel. Is there anyone that knowsthey will be attending? If so, post it and lets generate some momentum and enthusiasm!

We will also have some hounds for sale available at the state hunt. Matt and I have 3 or 4 nice Bluetick puppies that will be 12 weeks old at the state hunt time. They are out of our Bluetick male. He is a GR CH, NT CH and has an HTX title as well. He is a son of Blue Gauge. He is a really nice hound. They are out of a One ton Dually female. They should show as well as hunt. Matt and I are Black and Tan people so to see a Bluetick on the end of Matt's lead is saying something about the dog.

We will also have a nice Black and Tan male, 2 years old that has state and national show quality potential . He already has a champion title. He would be great for a youth hunter or showperson. He has a very good dispostion. His hunt and coon time have be limited.

I will also be selling a Plott female. She is Capital City Go Annie bred top and bottom. She is started. Chop on track and on tree. She is also a show champion.

We may have some other dogs as well if there is an interest. These dogs are not culls and Matt and I are not dog traders. Not enough time to work them all.

I will try to get some pictures posted in the next day or two.

Looking at attending the hunt not for sure yet if I will hunt or not. trying to break my dog from going back to the same tree over and over again. If I get home broke I may hunt him. Would be my first competition hunt. But defiantly going to try to come one way or another.

Plan on coming up both nights, just have a young dog so no hunting. Hope to spectate both nights, plan on joining KS houndsmen. I'm here in Lawrence and have an empty truck if you need help hauling anything up, just holler.
