In the process of building new kennels , I'm going to be pouring a 13X30 ft pad . Wanting to have 6 kennels 5x10 each . Want to have a wash trough at the bottom I can spray their crap into and wash it down . Was wondering if anyone else has done a similar set up and what pitch on the concrete

Mine are 14' long and have a 4" pitch seems to work just fine.

just remember the more you go the harder it will be to get kennel panels to lineup in the corners and look square unless you build your own panels allowing for slope

I'm having custom kennels made by a fencing company in my town. I'm gonna wait to see what pitch I use on the concrete and have them build the panels accordingly

I would recommend a slick finish too. Or at least a very light broom finish. That will help alot in keeping them clean. I slick finished mine and they are very easy to spray off with low water pressure. I think it is probably easier on the dogs pads too.

On concrete the rule of thumb is 1/4 inch per every foot.

Daniel I'd watch goin too slick. U and me both know how these IN winters are and snow or any wetness for that matter will have the dogs slippin-n-slidin. Also pretty easy to bust ur a$$ in a pair of rubber boots.

Drop them 1/2" per foot n finish smooth. These r 12' kennels 6" fall. I would recommend a roof over half the run too.

Yeah Jeremy I'm gonna think about it long and hard!! I already built an overhang .

These kennels will be on the backside of my new 60X140 ft pole shed . I had a 12X30 ft overhang built off the back and want to build the boxes inside


I want the boxes to be fairly standard but I'm thinking of making a cubby hole in the backside of their boxes or compartment where I can drop in a feed and water dish . Hopefully if it works right their body heat will keep the water from freezing in the winter ... But that's probably just wishful thinking lol

the paint on epoxy garage floor stuff from home depot works great also, keeps urine from soaking in the cement, helps a ton w/ the smell, down side is its expensive.

I would also advise either poured concrete or concrete blocks like used in a foundation between runs then attach the pens to the concrete this keeps urine
From crossing from pen to pen and helps also if you have a chewer. Downside is extra cost. Dan

My kennel is 36 feet long by 15 deep with an 8 inch slope on the 15 foot part,front to the back. I had another kennel off the end of the garage that had a 4 inch slope and 4 was not enough to have the urine run off fast enough in the summer time. If I was to build another it would be 8 inches of fall like I have now. As far as finishing the concrete,nothing but a smooth trial finish will do the job for me. I have seen the broomed finished kennels and when it comes to cleaning them, those little brush marks make for a real pain to get all the mess out of! JMO!! It works for me!!

Mr.Glista is telling U what I know, I have built over 10 kennels in the past several years due to the position I had where I worked (K-9 Supervisor) and also help some of my friends in building theirs. Three things to keep in mind 1-I WILL GARONTEE U that U will not put enough slope or fall which ever turm U wish to use in your floor U can not get to much. 2 - DO NOT put a broom finish on the concrete trial finish only. 3 - and in my opinion U MUST seal the concrete. (keeps out odor and the poop will wash off easy). Just a thought, hope it helps. H L Meyer

bgs2009 is spot on also. Acrylic is good !! BUT !! U better make sure it is clean if not it want stay. The ideal situation is as soon as it cures out then seal it, that has worked the best for me. H L Meyer

Pressure washing would probably be sufficient as long as there is no oils paints or other bond breaking contaminates on the floor. If you wanna clean better than the pressure washer you can use a 50% muratic acid and water mix. Just spray it on with a garden sprayer, agitate it with a brush and rinse good with clean water. Most important part about putting down a sealer is making sure your concrete is clean and very dry. Getting moisture trapped under the sealer will cause it to turn white and possibly delaminate.

A good high solids sealer rolls on best. Just like your painting with it.

At least I see it the same as he does. Nope nothing will smooth in a broom finish. Hands and knees with a piece of broken cement block and a little rubbing will solve that though, had to do that with one the first finisher just had to do it his way. H L Meyer
