Kennel Cough

Has anyone dealt with kennel cough before? How did you cure it? Also, did you still hunt your dog or lay him up until he is better? Thanks!

it takes about 2 wks to run it course and it will usually go thru every dog in the kennel. some ppl say antibiotics but its a virus and antibiotics wont touch it. fluids, OTC cough syrup - Robitussin is usually recommended.

confirm w/ your vet what they recommend, they may tell you over the phone. its like the flu, have to wait it out. as far as hunting, I wouldnt do it. you will be stressing the body and immune system and when they are compromised they can pick up other bugs as well. also, its very contagious and you dont want to give it to others that you may hunt with.

good luck. I had it many years ago. I had fewer dogs then. they sounded like they had the croup, a real hoarse, hacky cough. a lemon, honey mixture may work as well to help soothe throat.

We've used Robitussin DM also. It works well. We bought the Generic Brand. We gave 1 Tbsp. 2x's a day. Until Cough was gone.

Thanks everyone! Got him on some antibiotics and after 1 day his cough is sounding way better and happening less frequent. Vet said he should be good to go in about a week or so.
