Paid Handlers

How much does a paid handler make? If I was gonna handle dogs at big hunts how much should I charge?

If it is a dog you're already familiar with, I'd think having the owner cover expenses and you keep the winnings is a fair starting point. For example if you had a buddy you hunted with regularly & knew his hound well enough to handle & had some bigger events in the area that the owner wanted they're hound hunted in or if you were wanting something to hunt in those events.
But if you're talking taking in outside dogs that you're going to have to put some time in preparing, and / or traveling a considerable distance that opens up a lot more needs for compensation.

I would have to charge for my hotel meals and at least 25 cents a mlie to cover my gas and wear and tear on my truck. Then enough to cover my time.
I'm professional handler in conformation and I charge all kinds of fees like boarding grooming mileage and handling but some dogs are under a contract. I get paid a certain amount to handle the dog for a year at a flat rate and when I the dog gets a big win I also get a tip.
Dont let the client get to far in debt either. Its a lot to it.

Meals, hotels, gas and entry fees is a good place to start. Very few people make money at this game.
