cast

I think everone in the cast has to agree or spectators don't get to shine.

Sounds like you had a nonhunting judge that isnt aware of the new rule.
I would have just refered him to 10b.

Rule 10 (B) Spectators may not shine tree UNLESS ALL handlers in cast agree. Decision shall be made at start of hunt and applies for duration of hunt time.

I don't think a non hunting judge can override any rule and that one is purty specific in using the term ",handlers".

Rule says handlers. Non-hunting judge would not be considered a handler in my opinion.

Hunting , or not , a judge can only enforce the rules , not change them.

When you read the rule, it gives the impression that they wanted to be very specific that only the handlers should have a part in the decision to allow spects to shine or not. They also made it clear that this decision takes place BEFORE the hunt starts or it doesn't take place at all.

Spectators have no vote on any matter, and are not to enter discussions pertaining to the scoring of dogs.

If they see a coon while they're shining, they are to tell the judge. You can't score a coon that the majority of the cast, or a non-hunting judge doesn't see.

seriously folks

Another question ????
Why wouldnt you want a spectator to shine?
I would think if a dog treed a coon, I would want to make every effort to see the coon ??? Correct ?
Elsewise, might as well give the points and titles to the handler.
Maybe say ole blue.... owned n .handled by GrNt Joe blow.
LOL.....

2 per handler. Which is up to 8 spectators on a 4 dog cast. Which would be 12 people in the woods! Which is a hell of a mess! Lol

Lotsa reasons. Maybe one handler has no spectator and doesn't want two lights shining for the other guys dog and only one for his. Maybe he thinks 4 lights is enough and more lights make it harder to get one to look. Maybe he just thinks spectators should just spectate. Or maybe he just wants to piss you off. We even ask why?

Shining

It wouldnt matter till summertime whe bright lights might keep them from looking. Then i could see where s handler might not want them to shine

Hide hunter beat me to it.....

Leaves off...light her up...leaves on and I like to keep it dim a few minutes to search for eyes...blast em with a bright light and they might not look again..

Had a guy (I think) purposely blast one in a big hemlock one night..mine was the only dog treed..coon plain as day starring at me...first handler to me blasted him..he moved and never looked again...but he did admit to seeing him...lol...

I am amazed at how different handlers shine trees...but I've come to realize its in your best interest to try to find the coon yourself...some guys are GREAT and find every coon in a hurry...but I see many stand around and not shine or just straight up blast em...or never turn their light up etc etc...

I don't care how someone shines till its a thick tree...leaves or evergreens etc...

That's why you still have the option to shine alone for the first 2 minutes

I most the time am just spectating

But I like when the cast members at least let the spectator see the coon ,
Just makes a person feel like yes the coon was seen
Just my experience
