Question... 6-year old wants to

hang around and be walked for a while. Then, all ot the sudden, something clicks, he leaves and gets struck.

Any advice on how to get him to go on out quicker? He goes plenty deep when he decides to go on out there. It's like he wants you to go with him when you first drop him.

Haven't had him long. Just kind of wanting him to be a little more explosive at the drop...

Dont Walk

Just cut him, & don't say a word to him & STAND IN THAT AREA FOR 10 MIN. if he doesn't go, Hook him up go home 2 nt's later do the same thing, repeat this till he knows to go or go home {THAT RED WILL GO 4 SURE }

Well

Unsnap him and proceed to insert a boot into his rear end.

I had one like that once. When he got older, he went when he wanted to and not when you wanted him to. You could try any or all of the tricks that you wanted but he still did what "he" wanted, not what you wanted. But he could tree a coon anytime or anywhere that "he" wanted to. It sounds like you just don't have an "explosive" hound.

I'm no pro, but this idea sounds like it'll work. I was hunting a friend's "GRNITECH" that had gotten chain stale after he sat on a chain for a year, he just wanted to get in the dog box after peeing one everything, the owner had knocked him around some, but that didnt do any good. So i hunted him one night (also used another dog) and when he didnt go, I tied him to a tree (so he couldnt get in the dog box like he wanted to do) and then when the other dog treed, I left the dog tied to the tree. then after that, I made another drop, cut both dogs and by golly, he took of like he used to, never again did he stand around wanting to get in the box.

Maybe he is smarter than you think

He may be telling you there ain't nothing there and when he gets a whif of game stirring he goes and finds it, a lot of good BMC dogs will do that. At six years old I bet he knows what he is doing. I would be willing to bet when he goes he goes straight to the track strikes quick and trees quick too. If you are tired of him or don't want him send him here.
