Jumping/chewing dog

Best ways to stop a dog from jumping? Or from chewing the tree and keeping him focused on staying parked, and looking up?

bad tree habits

The best way to do it is cull him and get another dog. Not trying to be smart just going to save you alot of trouble.

Padlock and 12 inch piece of chain attached to the o ring on the collor. Every time he jumps it will wack him in the head.

Posts like this make me wonder how many good dogs have been culled, because they didn't have a trainer smart enough to straighten them out.

Good clubbing to the head as he jumps each time and when he chews. Just hit him each time he jumps or thinks about jumping. Make sure he is on lead so u can get him back on tree.

Yeah right! Go in there and beat a dog at the tree, when he's sitting under a coon! That ought to work! Lol!

lol. Ok buddy. First jumping at a tree is a bad problem to have for people like me that compitition hunt alot. I have broke dogs from alot of things but bad tree habits is something you might break for a little while but they will start back most of the time. Here is my thing this hound might be a coontreerer but why should it be into the coonhound world in the gene poole to produce dogs that do the same thing. To many good hounds out there to that tree coon without bad tree habits to work with something like this. These traits he mentioned are inhearited traits. I had rather put up with trashy than bad tree habits its much easier to break. All Im trying to tell the man is if bothers him he is better off starting over. The log chain shock collars ect might stop him for a little while but he will start back more than likely. I'm the most patient dog trainer that ever was. Bad tree habits I will not tolorate. thank you

Shorecooner u might have taken clubbing to the head wrong. You make it uncomfortable for them when they jump. Let the dog know its alright to keep treeing. Different dogs different intensity. You won't break them from treeing if they like to tree. If he's chewing then he probably likes to tree.

Yes sir, jumping at the tree is a really bad habit, can cause all kinds of problems. But it's not something that can't be fixed. Maybe some people don't have the patience to work with a dog enough to get them over it, and I understand that. It's your choice, and it's not something you can fix in one night, or even one week. Not everything is as easy to fix as a dog that will run deer, but that doesn't mean it can't be fixed. Now would I breed a hound that carries a trait like this? No, definitely not. But that doesn't mean he couldn't go on to make a nice coondog, that you could have a lot of fun with. Not everyone is looking for the next top reproducing Stud dog, some people just want to hunt and have fun.

Best Regards,
Josh
