Hunt ?

My young female is ready for hunts. Runs and trees like crazy. But she still has alot of pup in her. When she trees she will run back to meet me about 40 yards from tree. Then She will turn around and run back and tree again. And i can walk in and she will stay. That is when she is by herself with company she stays put. I am a youth hunter and just getting into hunts. I didnt know if i told judge before hunt if it would be alright or not .

40 yards? That's nearly half the length of a football field. Your dog will get minused for shore coming back that far. Won't matter what you tell the judge.

Start workimg on stopping her from coming back to meet you. EVERY time she comes off the tree to meet you fuss at her for coming to you. That should be all it takes but if she keeps coming to meet you start switching her lightly. DO NOT pet her until you get to the tree. Remember she won't stop this behavour in one night but it is easy to stop over time.

hunt

I will start working her with that. I didn't no if I would get points minus or not. As soon as she sees me she turns around and straight back to the tree. She doesn't hang around is what I ment.

40 yds is to far though. I think you would defintly have problems in a hunt. Id work on her some and then try your luck. Good luck and hope you and your dog the best.

If your dog is coming 40 yards off the tree, she is NOT ready for the hunts, however, this is a pretty easy fix. When she comes to meet you greet her with a brushy weed or a small switch, just stick it in her face and don't pay any attention to her until you get to the tree and have her handled. Tom
