DC 50 Bark detection

A buddy of mine has a dc 50 on one of his coyote hounds not only for the longer range but also the bark detection for when they run out of hearing. I thought this would be a cool feature for the coon hounds on windy
nights and in the hills where i cant always here my hound at 300-400 yds so i dumped my dc 40s, which worked well for me, and bought a coulple of the 50s. First night i used one of the 50s the dog was only 50 yds away and it kept saying she was barking and she was not. I have the bark detector set to show treed after 20 barks a minute and it went off not to long after when the dog was not even barking. later in to my hunt my dog struck a track and treed but it only showed the barking symbol bout 3 times and never did come up that she was treed in the ten minutes she was treeing. I have another 50 that i tried on a different night with similar results. last couple of night ive been out and it has not went off when the dog is not barking but will not show the bark symbol only every 20 barks or so when she is trailing. Treed 3 times one night and it never did show up that she was treed while barking about 90 barks a minute and i have itset to show treed at 20 barks a minute. Tried the second 50 again on another night with pretty identical results. Im running a sport dog hound hunter shock collar as well on the dog. i have tried running the shock collar above and below the 50 on the dog and have not seen a difference one way or another.

The 50 my buddy has on his coyote dog works very well on his 320 and my 320 as well so it has to be the collars. He is also running the same shocking system. Anyone have any ideas? Just seems weird that i have 2 50s that are not performing._

.

Dusty, I think you are confusing the dog alerts with the Bark indicator.

Bark indicator tells you that they are barking and when there barks exceed the preset number you put in. You will then get an alert, depending on the alert you selected.

When a dog trees it will show your dog treed on the screen has nothing to do with the bark indicator.

Thanks Bruce. i didnt relay what i was asking very well now that u put it this way. my problem is it will not show the dog barking in the little picture by the dog on my map or the dog page 90 % of the time and when she does tree it does not show her as barking nor do i get the allert for more than 20 barks a minute to come up. the first time i put the collar on her i had a bark symbol in the picture but she was not barking. it also gave me an alert that that she was barking more than 20 barks a mjnute. it has not done this for me since the first time i used it. now both collars never show me a bark signal in the little box nor do i get a dog is barking more than 20 barks a minute alert. thanks for helping withthis. been trying to get thru to garmin but my work schedule is hard to get in touch with them.

.

There are two things you have to turn on.
1. The bark indicator
2. Alert settings. Without alert settings it will never work, you will just have a picture of a dog.

Mine will show black bars in the white area beside the dogs head when my dogs are barking. It will show more and more bars in this area the more the dog barks once the dog has reached the limit you have set it pops up a alert that says dog is barking x times a minute.
The tree indicator has nothing to do with the bark indicator. Make sure you have your collars set to tree dogs. Also you may have your collar set at to low of a bark setting I keep mine on 80. Also you may want to make sure your collars and handheld have the latest updates form Garmin. I got my 320 and 50's in December and Garmin has released 2 or 3 updates for the 320 and dc 50 collars since then. I had a problem with one of my 50's dropping satellite signal and it would not communicate with the hand held ( I could go to identify dog unit and it would always give an error message) the second update they released fixed my issues. Also make for sure that you have your bark detection on it can be turned off. Hope this helped...

yes i have both of those on. everthing works just fine when i track my buddies 50 when coyote hunting. The 2 50s that i have do not get the black bars to show upwhen the dog is barking and has shown bars in the white box when dog isnt or has not barked at all. The 320 has also alerted me that my dog is barking 20 times a minute when she is not even barking and when she is barking treed it will not alert me she is barking. i should have the black bars in the white window when she barks but both of these collars do not do that when they are suppose to and thebars show up when my dog has not made a sound at all. i know my 320 fairly well and cant find anything else that needs to be turned on.like i said it works well with my buddies 50. just thought that someone else has had this same issues and there was a bad run of collars or an easy fix. sounds like i just got 2 bum collars.

I have had a similar problem. Mine used to work perfect for dogs barking. Now all of a sudden it pops up the alert that the dog is barking 20 barks a min and I know the dog is not because he will be well within hearing. Just started recently and after the software update it still does the same thing.

Software updates got mine closer to working like its suposed to. Made one drop tonight and made three trees. I finally got one bar to show up in the bark indicator box on all three trees and also had the alert show up that my dog was barking more than 20 barks a minute on all 3 trees. Still didnt give me any bars in the indicator box while dog was tracking on all 3 tracks......software update didnt work cometely for this collar anyway. After the first tree i tightened up the collar to the point it was effecting the dogs bark and i still didnt get it to show she was barking when on track.

If i get a chance to go thursday night i am going to try the other collar and see if the updates worked on it.
