I was at wolly world today and seen they had a few Gamo pellet rifles in 17 cal and 22 cal I was wondering. Has anyone tried any of the pellet rifles for knocking out coon or is it legal to do so? I seen that the 17 cal was rated around 1300 feet per second which should be enough to knock out a coon I would think. Most 22 ammo is around 1250 feet per second. If anyone has used them please give me some insight as to likes and dislikes with them. With 22 ammo being near impossible to find and pushing 20 bucks for a 100 rounds. I thought this might be a cheaper more available alternative to a 22. I noticed that 17 caliber pellets were 3 bucks for 250 rounds.

IMO yes they are enough in most cases to knock a coon out with a well placed shot. however the one i have is way to heavy to wanna carry around in the woods at night. idk about the gamo rifles i got a ruger airhawk, an its more weight then i wanna carry around tryin to lead dogs and and carrying coon out to.

Not saying you can't knock coons out with one, just saying that there is more to the equation than speed alone. I have a ruger air hawk with both the .17 and .22 cal barrels
I have killed coon with both .17 needs a head shot but the 22
Is lethal all the way around get a synthetic stock Much
Lighter than the walnut

there way over rated.don't waste your money.
I bought the "whisper".its a pos.
all over the place in accuracy.
no penetration power,unless your 30 ft away.

A Pcp gun is the way to go 22 or 25 cal, have charge via a bicycle like pump or a high pressure tank, the only draw back is there expensive, but u can also get 9mm, 357 cal, and 50

as we all know it is hard as hell to buy 22 ammo never in stock these days so I sold my 22 & got me a pellet gun. Myself I love it yes it is heavier to lug around, but with the correct pellets it is dead on & have knocked out 38 coon with it. The most it took for 1 kill was 3 hits. very good kill power out to 30 yard's after that not to good, but how many coon are you going to shoot at over 30 yards? I would recommend 1 if you don't mind the extra weight. I got my ruger at wallmart for under $130

dont quote me on this because im at work , but im thinking that im shooting the gammo vipers. I do know they are the lead free pellets & that the pellets are in a copper colored contaner with a snake on it. these are the most accurate pellets I have fired thru my ruger. I have tried several cheep pellets as well as the hi $ pellets, but these vipers are the most consistant & accurate not to mention the fact of being lead free

THANKS, I'LL GIVE IT A TRY, THE FACT THAT THE GUN IS HEAVY DOESNT BOTHER ME A BIT, BUT IM NOT SURE HOW OLD EVERYONE IS WHEN THEY SAY TOO HEAVY...IM ONLY 23 SO IT SHOULDNT BE AN ISSUE

im 43 & it is not to much of a issue for me neither I just carry mine in a case because it kind of sucks that you really cant mount a sling to a pellet gun due to the barrel break

Look in the black powder section of cabelas they have a sling
For the hawken muzzle loaders it laces around butt of stock
Then loops around the barrel that is what I have on mine.
I like the Benjamin pelts in the rugged less than 3/4 in at 25yds
Not bench rest quality but the coons I've killed don't know
The diff don't waste your money on PBA pellets

Ya I Looked at those slings, but decided to stick with a gun case so I was able to carry a 2 1/2 foot peice of welding tig wire that I made into a cleanning rod incase of pellet getting stuck in barrel. I have not had this happen yet, but I dont want my dog treeing with the meet & have it happen. Just another thought for you guys to keep in mind because it will happen eventually

A sling to your case is it a soft case? I bet it is a lot easier walking
