Vaccinations

Vaccines Are For Life

Once your dogs has gone through a complete round of vaccines prior to age 6 months, your dog has been vaccinated for life.

Let me repeat that: after the initial round of vaccines and booster shots, which will all occur before the age of 6 months, your dog will never need another vaccine again.

The only exception is for rabies, and only because that is a legal requirement. Rabies vaccines are good for three years.

Ronald D. Schultz, chairman of the University of Wisconsin's Department of Pathobiological Sciences, and the world's foremost expert on dog and cat vaccines wrote in the March 1998 issue of Veterinary Medicine :

"My own pets are vaccinated once or twice as pups and kittens, then never again except for rabies."

If your vet is trying revaccinate your adult dog for anything other than rabies, change vets.

I was looking to see about getting some Vaccine for my dogs and ran across this. What does anybody think?

Interesting. I believe that . as much as I hear that people vacinate them once a year afterward. Then the dog sometimes gets sick from the shot. But I also heard of dogs getting parvo at 9 and 10 months old to but not very often.

vaccinations

Go to www.oldcountryvet.com. Order for 19.95 Dr. Busby's book on how to afford veterinary care. You will be amazed at what veterinarians will charge for things your dog doesn't need.

Jerry Dr. Busby tells it like it is on vaccinations and Vets. There are studies being conducted on rabies vaccines and how long the rabies antibodies stay in the blood stream. Dr. Karen Becker at mercola healthy pets .com has videos interviewing Dr Jean Dodds about rabies vaccines and blood (Titering) sampling blood for antibodies against rabies.

I called the local vet office and asked the receptionest how much a rabies shot was. She said its 20.00 for a 1 yr vaccine. Never mentioned a 3 yr so I asked about it and she said I don't know I'll have to check. She comes back and says its 30.00 and 46.00 for the office visit. She says no one ever asks for a 3 yr vaccine. I wonder how many even know its available ?? I use to order all my vaccines from vetvax and rabies were 29.00 for a 10 dose vile. I didn't use this vet !!!! Got ripped off at another one.

Sounds like your vet may gettin some extra money from you. I just took my dogs in for their rabies vaccine and it was $20 for one rabies shot. My vet said the 1 year and 3 year are the exact same vaccine and same price. The very first rabie shot is good for one year and as long as you get the second before the first expires (1year) the second shot will be good for 3 years. That's what I was told.

No he didn't get any extra from me I didn't use him. I had already watched the videos by James Busby and Karen Becker so I knew the one yr and three yr were the exact same vaccine. Thats another way they get you isto tell you the first vaccine has to be a 1 yr then the next one they'll give the 3 yr. when there is no difference in them. If your dog had a rabies after 6 months old he don't ever NEED another one but vets and vaccine companies persuaided our elected officials and got the laws written in their favor

Questions

I had a 15 month old get parvo froma older dog my niece put in her kennel. She had all her shots.

Second I had a Coyote bite my beagle over back Coyote has distemper next day Dog had it. He had had shots also.

Can anybody Explain this one? Best I heard from Vet is the vaccines never took. 15 month old did survive. Beagle did not, vet said he wouldn't make it so we put him to sleep.

Thanks For any Ideas Please. Jeff Ashmore
