Old or New Blood????

What are your views or opinions on Old vs New blood? Would you rather breed to one of these new studs or AI with a straw out of an old stud? What differences do you see in the studs now vs the big name studs from years ago?

Nice

Same here I really dont have a either or choice, I just like to breed to a Coondog that likes to get under a coon.

Both

IMHO, you only go back to the old dog if you have slipped in an area that he was known to be strong reproducing the trait you need to re-capture or intensify.... If the proper breedings were made and the pups brought to full potential your stock should be better than the old dog and you shouldn't need to go "Back To The Well" but we all know this is not always the way it winds up in alot of cases.. So having the "Well" to go back to can be of help.... IMHO....

Yeah, I competition hunt !! All Fall and Winter long.. My Blues compete with the local coon.. My Blues win a ton !!! We use and recommend MOONSHINER LIGHTS, Peggs , Ok.

Yes true, JMO ive notice that the old hounds were more of a houndy type dog and the dogs today seem to be losing that look, now there is some that still are but most are losing it. They seem to be breeding more now for speed and less on accuracy.
