va bear hunting guides

How can a person legally guide hunters on national forest and get paid for it when we cant even sale a bear hide. Plus I think it is wrong because we as hunters pay our taxes and buy our national forest stamp to have the land to hunt on and some one brings people in and makes money off every ones land. Guys this is happening in va on paddy mountain. zepp va that's in shenandoah va

guiding bear hunters

I don't know how if it's legal or not, because I live up here in Maine where it is legal, but complaining about other bearhunters is shallow thinking and mostly jealousy. I'm not picking on you. I just know what you're saying is wrong. We fight up here all the time..When money gets involved ethics and common sense go out the window..Just talking about it and complaining about others gets them bunny huggers all fired up..Think about it. You could be a bunny hugger trying to do just that..The best thing we can do is not complain about someone hunting legal. Life is too short. Let's keep bearhunting legal for our kids and grandkids in all the states we can.

It is legal here in Va but you must be licensed.

Maine

I pray to god that the way they do it in Maine stays in Maine. We have all seen the cable shows on maine bear hunting over bait. Some ******* sitting in a tree with a bow or crossbow waiting for a bear to come to a 50 gallon barrel of peanut butter! The first time I saw it, I was so sick, I almost puked.

guide

this guy clames he is the only lincenesed guide in the George national forest it don't bother if they guide on there own land put I may be wrong but 90% of are ground to hunt on is national forest not like main wear most is private land. we give are national forest to pad people the next thing we wont have it because the govment will see they can make some money and take that from us or make all of us pay more. I been thinkin about makeing up a petition and see if I can get people to sign it and take it to are congressman and get this stoped

If he is a legal guide he is paying way more then you do for the use of the national forest. He will pay permits, insurance and possible that he had to be bonded.. I know what it cost to run an operation on federal/state land and its a lot more then just a measely one time payment..

Heather I wouldn't get all worked up over it. Even if they are guiding legal it's not like everybody an there brother will do it. I would bet it don't go on long. This is why. In va you can't hunt till probably 70% of the bear are gone up and the majority are smaller bear. The first things a client will ask is what is your success rate and what is your average kill. Now I might be wrong but I doubt the success rate is anywhere near what the client can get in another state like Maine. Now the size might be similar but if they can hunt in sept/ioct and have a 90-100% success rate for the same money then I don't see them waiting till December for a much smaller chance. Also the terrain we both no you kill bear in that location by walking countless miles to were the bear is laying. Your average guided hunter can't and want walk a mile. Plus for someone to guide legal on federal land they have to have permits and license out the rear they also have to have a hefty insurance policy. Now coming from someone who has guided for a living it's not going on long there's not enough money in it. Thunder mountain can tell you in Maine for example how much the industry is down. You do the numbers and I think you will see your problem will fix itself.

Now to the man that's guiding up there legally more power to you and much respect.

Thanks Justin King

Biased OPPINION

I'm not a paid guide nor do I guide. I don't think there's anything wrong with it at all. The people that come to hunt with the licenseed and insuranced and perfectly legal guide in the state of Va have to Purchase all the licenses and government stamps just like every other hunter has to and most of them live in va anyway that come to go on a guided hunt. The guides that do it have to have a million dollar insurance policy and permits and licenses and 10% of what they make goes straight back to the state of Va. So before you jump to conclusions I would do a little more research about the matter. The guides pay more back in taxes than a normal hunter even thinks about which is benefiting our state. When it comes to hunting people are jealous of other people that are good hunters that kill game every year and then when they make money off hunting oh boy they really get jealous. But they really don't make that much money anyway after license, permits, insurance policies, housing the hunters and feeding them, gas an wear and tear on their vehicle and their time they only make a couple hundred bucks after it's all said done.

Making money off of bear hunting?

I farm for a living, I hunt for fun! The commercialization of bear hunting is something the locals in southeastern nc have been fighting years.

Must be nice to make a couple hundred dollars. It proly cost me a thousand dollars to hunt just during kill season and I didn't have any big vet bills.

Lol it's just like the drug epidemic in america bear hunting I mean. In America you got drug addicts( bear hunters) who will work all week to blow all there money on the weekend to get high. Then in America you got drug dealers( bear hunting guides) who sale drugs enough to supply there own habit to were it don't cost them as much as the regular drug addict. Now off of the drug analogy you cant fault a man for figuring out how to afford to do what he loves more then just on the weekend. In my opinion for what it is worth the ones who dislike it so much are the ones jealous when there working and the other man is making a pack of dogs.

Jealous for sure

I am definitely jealous of the man that is making dogs while I'm stuck working.

The way I understand it is you can guide as long as the chase starts on private property. But I could be wrong.
