I saw on another forum where someone was talking about taking tax deductions on what they spend with their dogs. Does most people do this and do you have to actually compete for money or try to make money on your hounds to do this??

Start a kennel, show a loss for 5 years (that's not hard) vote Republican, dont take checks.

Everything I've ever read said that the IRS looks at this as a scam, and it's a good way to get audited. Dogs can be claimed as a medical expense, or a business expense. But you have to be able to show that your dog is necessary to your business and not just a part of a hobby. Just what I've read on the subject.

Been running my kennel as a business for 11 years, most businesses was founded from a hobby, biggest problem is when your hobby turns into a business it becomes work.
