Starting from Scratch...

Hey y'all. Its been about seven years since I had a coondog. Coonhunting and hounds used to be my life passion, but life got me sidetracked and so now I'm going to have to start from scratch.

What I need yalls help with is what the best bloodlines are to look at these days. I know that 7-8 years is atleast 2-3 generations of walker dogs that I know next to nothing about My dad and I had a lot Houses and Finley River bred dogs. We had an awesome son of So Fork Jammin Mundar and Kansas City Royal. He was killed by a bear before we could finish him on the bench. Id love to have another dog like him. We also had a triple bred Bellars Pac Man female that was a daughter to Loomacres Rocky Mtn Jasper. She was a heck of a good hound.

But I have no clue to begin with all these popular studs in pedigrees today that I've never even heard of because I've been out of the loop for over seven years. Id really appreciate any help in pointing me in the right direction for some quality hunting dogs and possibly a nice dual purpose pup.

I'm going to be moving to a bigger place tthis year, so after that happens I plan to invest in a couple walkes r pups. I've got a daughter who will be 6 years old in February. I've been taking her to the local UKC events and she is just as fascinated as I was as a kid. It makes me feel so great knowing my daughter has it in her blood too! I can't wait to get the move over and be able to afford buying her her first pup. I've got neices and nephews ranging in ages from 2 to 14 as well, and they've all been showing a lot more interest in the outdoors as they see how much fun we have as a family.

Well, anyhow, I hope y'all can point a country gal in the right direction. Me and my future coonhunters are depending on all the advice we can get!

Thank y'all in advance!

Thank you! I hope to get every last one of em hooked LOL. The neices and nephews-in-law have a lot of curiosity about hunting and the outdoors in general. I'm excited to be a mentor to them all, the same way my many mentors did for me. Sure is rewarding seeing my 5 year old outfish every last one of us, baiting her own hooks with crawdads she caught herself!

Thank you for the information. I think I came across the studs thread on the other subforum. Ill have to go back and look into it some more. Nice to see Upstate NY is finally getting put on the map. We may not be as numbered as other states, but our houndsmen are genuine guys dedicated to what they love. That's why if you know the right guys, you're probably better off buying pups from them. They're breeding dogs that excel in Upstate NYs terrain, and if you live here that's what ya need!
