cedar trees

I have a question. My old dog has treed the last three nights I've had him out in cedar trees. He's running good tracks and coming treed like he's suppose to but I haven't been able to find them. My question is has anyone heard of coons feeding on little berries in ceader trees. I talked to a old man today and he bet that the coon are feeding in them cause we don't have a great acorn drop this year. The last tree he made last night he was winding running back and forth trying to pin point where he thought it was but I just got mad at him and got out of there.Any thoughts on the cedar trees will be aappreciated. With that being said my old dog is usually pretty accurate too thanks in advance for the comments

cedar

I had never heard of the berries in cedar trees either but I know that's where he's been treeing. Maybe it has something to do with the cold. Thanks for the reply

I have treed several coons in cedar tree over the years and it is usually when they have berries on them. I don't know for sure if coons eat them or not but I have suspected that they did since it usually happens when they are in fruit.

Yes they eat the berries. They feed a lot on holy berries this time of year also.

The next time you tree one in a cedar cut his stomach open and look.

thanks

Well maybe that might be what their doing then. I had never heard of them feeding on the berries till today. The man I talked to said he was hunting in south Carolina years back and that's what they were feeding on cause of the shortage of acorns thatyear. Thanks for the repreplies.

They will feed on them even with acorns. A coon will eat anything edible if he walks by it.
