Squallers
I enjoy trying out different brands. I think we need them more down here than in some areas of the country. Over the years it has been my experience that we see most of our coons by finding their eyes and up North most of you are looking for the body of the coon. Many of you may disagree with that but it is what I have seen over the years. Lens covers and a squaller used effectively find more coon down here. The best I ever had was an old Mallardtone. It was made from wood and sounded more like a kitten coon. Many coon ran down the trees in Georgia and in Texas when I was using that old squaller. On more than one occasion people have been on hunts with me when I squalled a coon out and they said that they had heard of that but never actually seen it done. (It helps if you will keep the light out of the coons eyes when he starts down the tree) Squallers are like your best old dog-I am still looking for one as good as that one! Coons react differently through out the year to a squaller. If you are like me, I just want to know if the coon is up there, whether I am going to shoot it, score it or just pet the dog.
