trucks

im looking at trading in my car for a truck in the next couple years and I maybe looking in to a Toyota tacoma, has anybody that has one had any major problems with them, and would the bed be wide enough for maybe a 3 dog dog box?

My brother drives a Tacoma nice looking truck , can drive it about anywhere ...down side he comes & gets the full size Chevy to pull his bass boat to the lake (it does better than the toyota in the hills towing) not very good gas milage my full size Chevy Z71 gets better than his Toyota & no I don't think a full size 3 stall dog box will fit in the Tacoma but probably would in the Toyota Tundra Toyotas are pretty pricey for new but do hold value even when old & seem to run forever.

The Toyotas are nice but they don't have anything special on the domestics (if that's what they are). I bought the Ford ecoboost get average 20mpg more than enough power. Four doors probably the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven. Through the years I've owned them all. All have pros n cons and I've had good luck with them all. I think you just need to do some homework and pick your poison.

I'd probably go with a used one but I'm looking tv the Tacoma cause of the size, figure it'd be easier to get in and out of some places when out hunting

Heres my two cent. I drove a Toyota Tundra for several months and couldn't stand the way it rode or drove. I now have a GMC 2500HD and bought me an old 97 Nissan Hardbody 4X4 to hunt out of. Got one that'll pull the barn down and one that's a little easier on the pocketbook at the pump. The Tacomas are good trucks if you don't plan on towing or hauling much. JMO

I had a 87,98,99 and 13 Tacoma. A 06 tundra. Still have the 13 and the 98. Ain't a domestic truck listed on here that will follow that 98 around coon hunting north Ga..Has 180k and still rolling them off. Mostly rough hunting miles. . Now the Tundra lasted me 100k. Then it started messing up. You want pull much with the 13 Tacoma. A lawn mower or popup camper. So far so good on it. We will see if the 6 lasts as long as the 4 cylinders do. It gets 18.5 constantly around the house here and 21 on highway trips. 4 doors and plenty of room. If I needed to pull stuff though. Id go with a big truck.

My huntin truck is an 05 colorado 4door, 4x4, gets 21 MPG. 200,000 on it with no trouble yet. One thing about toyota, the parts are crazy expensive.

I had a 93 4x4 pickup, it was a tank, (or so I thought). You could not stop that truck, other than where the frame rusted completely in two, right where the torsion bar mounted. I know they still had frame issues up until 2004. So be very careful about what you look at. Another lesson I learned, if a Toyota has a frame that has a protective coating on it already, steer clear of it.

Heres a comment that surprises me. Ive been in the cutting tool industry for years and all my tooling tolerances have done is decreased. Im not doubting you, just surprised.

I should have stated that the tolerances I am talking about are on the raw material (nicks, misruns, inverse fins and such) Machining tolerances are about the same. But we machine some really rough aluminum castings.

One of the major problems in castings is inconsistency. One batch runs smooth as silk then the new batch comes in and blows all tools to holy smithereens. Ive seen this in auto, medical, aerospace, heating n cooling is the worst.

I like my Ford, but I can pick any vehicle apart and this ones no different. They are all overpriced. They are now days skinned with thin metal and to much plastic. ect...on and on

Half of you aren't comparing apples to apples. I know my old style Tundra doesn't ride as nice as your new full size Ford or Chevy. But he's asking about a Tacoma. Which is now about the size of my old Tundra. The reason I drive that size truck is you aren't even gonna turn your big truck around on the two tracks we hunt.

So start comparing the mid size Toyotas with your Rangers, Colorado, Dakota, etc. I think Toyota kills those models in every way. I'm at 210,000 on my '05 and it's as tight as the day I bought it and only had front brakes. I need to buy another one right now and put it up for a spare. Might need it in another 10 years or so. lol

Wow, that's pretty good. I wish I had a truck. I hunt out of an Escort wagon. But then again, I don't hunt as hard as most.

Got 240,000 hard huntin miles on one single cab short bed Chevy and buds got 280,000 on his short bed. Vortec 350s would drive both to Cal n back. Guarantee you could turn these rascals aound on two tracks better than a YoYo. Ive had plenty YoYos and haf good luck with em but they just aren't my bag of tea
That ford is the most comfortable truck I'veowned.
