has anyone heard anything about this, some kind of new disease killing dogs in ohio. if it is in ohio it will be every where before long. starts out bloody diareah, vomiting. sounds like parvo but it is not. the dept of agriculture is trying to find out where it came from.

Hey

My 3 year old just went through this.. Came home to water my dogs and man all I seen was bloody mess in the kennel and dog wouldn't eat at all and I thought it was parvo , but dog was up to date on shots , I just gave him turkey lunch meat he would eat that , it took him about 3 days to get over it and it hasn't bothered my other dogs.. Big scare though

there is a ton of info on FB and other news outlets. it is a pig/bird disease and was first diagnosed in dogs in OH. there are other suspect deaths that ppl think could be related all over the country. some dogs in the same household as the sick ones did not catch it. they are not sure how it is passed between dogs. they have found the virus in feces. **an excellent reason to pick up after your dog.**

recommendation is to stay away from dog parks esp. and be vigilant about where you go. stay away from places where farm animals have been (fairgrounds, etc). one suggestion was the use baby wipes to clean the dogs feet after they get off the grounds and before you go home.

if your dog starts showing the signs/symptons (bloody diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, and a rapid worsening) get the dog to the vet asap.

this is from the avma site. doesnt sound like they want to confirm its there even tho vets in the area are doing so:

Q: Are the dogs in Ohio infected with circovirus?
A: No. Circovirus was suggested as a possible cause of illness and death of dogs in several parts of Ohio in late August/early September 2013, but it is no longer being considered as the primary cause of the illnesses. Circovirus was detected in the stool of one ill dog in Ohio, which is the first time the virus has been identified in Ohio, but this does not mean that circovirus has been confirmed as the cause of any of the recent illnesses. The Ohio Department of Agriculture continues to investigate the illnesses, and this will take time.

Q: Are the dogs in Michigan infected with circovirus?

A: As of October 3, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been investigating illnesses similar to those observed in Ohio. The investigation will take time, and at this time they are not confirming that circovirus is involved.

**there was also talk one one vet site that the owners of the sick/dying animals were also sick themselves the week of or week before bringing dog in. there is evidence of humans being able to transfer the flu virus to dogs.

I know AVMA is trying to talk it down I read on a vet site also about the possibility that the human flu is being transmitted to the dogs and causing this, they said that if you have the flu to wash your hands well before handling your dogs or their food.

I have to say if possible have Parvaid on hand that you can give your dogs if they do get this. You can also boost their immune system ahead of time with colostrum and/or colloidal silver.

BTT for everyone to Read!
I don't want to seem vigilant here, but I want to express one thing we can all do to help our dogs rid this virus and many other viruses.
Keep the Dogs Immune System Healthy and powerful!
A Strong immune system is worth it's weight in gold!
Best of luck and happy hunting!

The info I read said that the 1st case was in CA way back in april. Thats why One of the vets in OH saved some of the dogs in OH with it. The vet had read of it on face book of all things and new right away how to treat the 2 dogs that came to her.
