A couple weeks ago we got a call from a hunter i know,said he was gonna have a contest opening night, 2 man teams,2 biggest coon combined weight, hundred bucks a team, winner takes all, weighin by 3am.
Naturally i said yeah my partner and i are in. We treed a bunch of coon 14, shot 7 nice ones. 2 of them were 20#ers so we quit at 1 o clock and made the 90mile drive to the guys farm.

Heres the eye opener part... I havent seen a turnout at a hunt in the area in years with even half the hunters that turned out for this deal, this guys barn was packed with hunters, half of which i had never met. So the next time you hear that hunt attendance is down because of the economy and gas prices, IT AINT SO.
Winning weight for 2 coon was about 48#s
Home by 6am, dog tired. Great opening night.

Great idea but my area would be void of coon after a couple of those. Just curious, what was the payout?

I had 1 a good couple years ago in my garage at home and it was just by word of mouth, nothing posted anywhere about it and I believe we had 31people entered in it. It paid half for the biggest and half to the smallest. I fixed 5 crockpots of deer chili and had coffee and pop. Everyone seemed to have a good time. I only charged $10.00 entry fee.

Our local Seneca , Mo club always host a few big coon contest during season . (which isn't open here yet) We all like that chance to come home with a little cash in our pocket !

Our club held our annual fur hunt last night. Probably had 30 adults there & 15 kids when I got to the club. 95% of them not local competition hunters. Big chili feed & fellowship in honor of an old local fur hunter who passed a couple years ago. Didn't hardly advertise it the last couple years, just word of mouth & it just keeps getting bigger & bringing new faces. Everyone had a good time. Our little club isn't very active but it is becoming pretty obvious that the competition events are not what interests our members or local hunters, so we might just focus on making this event better.

I have one every year feed about 300 plus people lots of raffle items we have a great time!!!!!!!!!!!!!
