Top RQEs in 2013

I'd like to take a moment to recognize the top ten RQEs for 2013. These clubs should be very proud of the hunts they've put on. I know we at UKC are thankful to have a working relationship with these clubs.

Top Ten:

1. Lisbon Area CHC, Lisbon, Ohio 64
2. Barlow CHA, Barlow, Ohio 64
3. Henry County CHA, Clinton, Missouri 62
4. Morrow County CHA, Cardington, Ohio 60
5. Northeast MO CHA, Kirksville, Missouri 58
6. Tennessee Valley CHA, Scottsboro, Alabama 55
7. Deer Creek CHA, Greencastle, Indiana 54
8. Hawkins Co CC, Rogersville, Tennessee 53
9. Ace Coon Club, Martinsville, Indiana 51
10. North Central KY CHC, Elizabethtown, Kentucky 51

Of special note is the Northeast MO CHA in Kirksville, Missouri who held their first-ever RQE during the 2013 season and placed at number five.

Also, two breed-specific RQEs hosted by chartered breed associations would have been in the top ten, but we felt it wasn't really fair to other clubs to list them. The American B&T Association and the Grand Bluetick Reunion both drew very well and should be commended for their members' commitment to their association and the UKC.

Again, good job to all of these clubs!

They hadn't held an RQE since 1990. Don't know why they lost it. That was way before my time!

COOL

GLAD TO HEAR THEY GOT IT BACK. GREAT HUNTIN DOWN THERE. I THINK THE YEAR WAS 87. I HUNTED LUKE AND WON IT AND RUSS HUNTED TOAD AND PLACED SECOND.
I DREW 2 DUAL GRANDS FOX RIVER CINDY AND BAUMBAUCH'S PULPWOOD. THAT WAS BACK IN THE DAY AND WE HAD ENOUGH FOR GAS, ENTRY'S . WE STOPPED AT A DAIRY QUEEN AND HAD ENOUGH FOR A HOT FUDGE SUNDAE AND RUSS HAD A LARGE CONE. THE HOT FUDGE WAS BAD AND I GOT EXTREMELY SICK. LUKE SPLIT FROM THE 2 WALKERS ON THE FIRST DROP. I TOLD THE JUDGE IF I DIDN'T FIND HIS COON, I WAS DONE(was that ill). LONG STORY SHORT HE HAD A COON AND IT WENT FROM THERE. SO MANY FOND MEMORIES OF THESE HOUNDS, THE NITE HUNTS AND JUST COON HUNTING. <v>

Yeah, your such a young thing. lol Years ago Kirksville was where it was happening. Back in the 70's they would have a B&T sectional with 75-100 dogs a night. They have done like a lot of clubs in recent years and had a hard time keeping the doors open. They have about 5 or 6 guys trying to keep it going. This is the first RQE that they have had in years. The weather was nice(though I fell through the ice up to my crotch in the first hour). It was also, a Redbone sectional.

I was alive in 90 but way to young to be hunting! I know Kirksville used to be a very strong club. Glad to see their RQE do well and I hope they have it and have success for a long time.

Dad had an aunt that lived near Kirksville. I don't remember going out there much (I was pretty young) but he used to go out quite a bit and hunt. Her husband was a big farmer. They lived near Shelbina I think.

Cudo's also to my friends at the Barlow club. That club has been getting it done since I was a kid and probably longer than that. We are talking probably 50 years or more of a great coonhunting club. When I was a young man they would put 100 dogs in the woods on Friday and then over a hundred on Saturday's RQE. The numbers are down a little from yesteryear but those guys and gals are a GREAT bunch of coonhunters.

I remember as a young man seeing it harder to win the Friday night UKC hunt, which was then labeled as the Southeast Ohio Championship, than it was to win a breed days. I say that because Barlow would draw as many or more dogs on their Friday night hunt than you would see at most Breed days events of that era.

So Congrats Barlow, on another WELL DONE JOB!!!!

Odd year...Beaver Falls, PA, literally a short drive down the road from Lisbon fell off the map this year...not sure if there were even 40 dogs there...but they moved it to the weekend of Walker Days...used to be the weekend following Lisbon...Lisbon was first weekend of March and Beaver Falls is typically the 2nd weekend...

i am at atleast Lisbon every year and then Beaver Falls...they've always seemed to draw the same crowd till this year...

Thanks for posting this Paul, and congrats to all the above clubs!

Paul are you going to post the top 20 coon clubs in the country with the highest average turn outs for the year at the end of this year? I know UKC used to do that but I haven't seen it in the past couple years.

Mikyle,

I would really like to do that but have a snag on our end with technology. The program we used to use to compile that information hit a major road-bump a couple years ago and that is why you haven't seen it in a while. Hopefully in the future it will get fixed so we can recognize the top clubs in the country.

It's been like that for a few years now. Lisbon is always a good draw because it is the first of the year in the area. I will say this...I have seen them have trouble pulling guides. I had a deer hunter guiding me one year. I can remember an RQE back in the late 80's that drew 106 dogs at Beaver Falls. We had cars lined up and down Court Rd because there wasn't room in the club area. We're lucky to draw 40-50 dogs now...not much has changed. Still have the ground and guides..just not the dogs and handlers.
