whats the best line of curs for coons and sq. that are stone silent

You can get silent,simi silent and open out of the same litter. A lot easier to find a cur silent on squirrels than coons. I myself do not know of a line of curs that produce 100% silent coondawgs. I want a dog to be silent on coons. But I have to go thru a lot of them to find it.

I breed for silent trailers with my Blackmouth Curs. Pretty consistant about it too.

You might consider trying a Laika. These dogs are silent until treed. Best of luck hunting.

It isn't hard at all to find them silent in the OMC line, finding them open or semi open on coon is much harder.

Just wondering... My female barks on a hot squirrel not constant but every now and again. I never coon hunted her but always wanted to. Do you supppose if she ran a coon she would be wide open? She has ran cats both feral and bobcat and ran them barking non-stop to the tree and treed like she was gonna blow the top out of it. I am thinking if it is a hot coon trail she would be wide open and bark kinda like she does on squirrel on a cold coon trail. She is nearing 7 now and I finally got someone talked into trying to coon hunt and I am gonna try it and see what she does.

i would say if shes open on squirrels she will on coons to, but dont know if she would bark everytime her foot hits the ground.ive had dogs that were silent on coons but would bark nearly every breath on track running bobcat.

I got a male dog here out of Geronimo that is stone cold silent on coon. I also have a young male out of Nickelsons Doc that is open like a hound. I prefer them to be semi open on coon but can't seem to find one of those.

I have a female that is semi open on track. On a bad track she will open every now and then, but as the track gets better she opens a little more but not much. I like a semi open dog on coon just cause it lets me know where she is and whats going on. Had a half brother to her that was stone silent and my old Tack dog was like a hound on track.

.......I don't wanna hear even a "peep" from any of my curdogs until they fall treed. Over the years, mine seem to only open if they are about to catch the coon on the ground, or if they get hung up trying to sort out a track in the water, such as a cypress slough. Other than that, and the occasional tap tree, they only open their mouths at the tree.

Not everybody's preference, but that's how I like them......
