I was very sorry to hear that Pigeon died peacefully curled up in her house yesterday. She was 12 years old. Pigeon was one of the top reproducing females of the Redbone Breed. She came from a whole family of top reproducers also and was a full sister to another top reproducer...Gr Nt Ch Raven. Raven and Pigeon figured prominately in the T-Top breeding program. Pigeon is gone but her genes will live on in her offspring. As you can see, Pigeon was a fine example of a very tight linebred 1/2 brother/sister cross that worked. Apparantly, way back when, some very smart Redbone breeders did that a lot and it seemed to work. Oh yeah, Mahogany Sweet Lulu was also the product of a 1/2 brother sister cross off Chief.

That is the "history" behind Pigeon. Now how about the future. Pigeon produced 4 Gr Nt Ch's and 2 Nt Ch's. Can anyone list them? Who all has a Granddaughter/Grandson or Great Granddaughter/Grandson of Pigeon? I have a couple. Overall Champion at 2013 Southern Redbone Days Nt Ch L's Dark Timber Sheba is a granddaughter and so is L's Dark Timber Wendy. I also have 5 pups running around in my back yard that are great grandsons/daughters of Pigeon on the bottom and great grandsons/daughters of Pigeon's full sister Raven on the top.

I'm very sorry to hear Pigeon passed away. It doesn't seem that long ago that I drove to Mo and bought Pigeon and Roxy as puppies from Bob Morietta. Both Pigeon and Roxy were natural tree dogs as were a few others that I owned from that cross. The Bomber x Bell cross was one of my favorites. Pigeon and a few other dogs from that cross has gone on to impact the breed for years to come. I have a pretty nice Daughter of her's here now called Nite Ch Bennett Hills Lil Red Zoe.

When I was talking to Pastor Mike yesterday he told me that Pigeon had passed. I was unable to post any thing, that is one of the bad parts of having hounds. They just do not hang around very long. Here is a few pictures of the old girl and some offspring/ grand pups and so on.

I'm sure going to miss the old girl. She made me laugh, her digging for rocks at feeding time or licking the fence pole when it was 10 degrees, lol. She never knew a stranger and would always greet you with a wagging tail.

She kept us in good dogs over the years and she loved to hunt. Glad we got those pictures of her. Time goes by to fast sometimes. It's good to know that we will have her blood in our dogs for years to come.

Mike, Iam very sorry to hear this about Pigeon. She has been a very positive influence on the breed and will be missed for sure.

Was there any connection with her registered name and the name Pigeon? I have often wondered how the name came about or if there was any hidden connection between the two? Take care and keep'em RED!
