Miss Mcgill pup.

My son and i purchased a male pup from Terry Bartles. My son has worked with this pup a good bit with a drag and a couple caged coon. This dog just turned 7 months on the 20th of september. Over the last 2 weeks we have run the dog 6 times at night. He has run and treed his own coon 5 of those nights. One of those nights was a double. I'm very proud of my son for the work he has done with this dog. I think by the end of this kill season he is gonna have one heck of a coon dog.

Great job! I know some of that blood behind your sons dog, and in my mind, that means alot. But, the leg work your son is doing is what it takes. I hope that dog makes a future World Champ, or at least one that has the potential to be one! Good story.

Thanks guys. Took Law out this evening. He treed 1 single and 2 doubles. The single was the best one. After treeing for about 5 minutes we got him from the tree. We were watching the coon while walking away. The coon turns and runs down the tree. Law just about caught him. The ole coon hit another tree real quick. I'm amazed to see the improvements in the dog everytime he is taken out.

One question though. How do you get a dog to start ranging out to hunt? Once he hits a track he goes until he trees. Right now if he gets more than 70-80 yards away from you he comes back untill you walk with him.

Turn him out a few times if he don't go put him back in the truck as soon as he comes back when your other dog gets treed walk your pup in tie him back shoot the coon out to your other dog don't let him touch it two or three times it will light a fire under his butt. Stay constant on him hunting or going in the box he will figure it out real fast

We aren't hunting him with another dog. We are hunting him alone.

I would say, some age on him will get him to hunt a little better! But from what I'm reading on here, he sounds like a natural. Some of em will go yonder, and some will hunt out about 45 min. and check back in, and some will just hunt close. You just never know, but most likely, he will hunt like his mamma or his daddy!

I wanna publicly thank Terry Bartles for such a fine pup. Been running him a few nights a week when we can get time. Had a rough night saturday running a couple tracks backwards. He did eventually figure them out. Had him out tonight. He treed 1 double and 2 singles. Also put one in a hole and one in a HUGH brush pile. My son and i are really anxious to see how he turns out in another year or so. Once again, THANKS TERRY.

Awesome job on your pup young man ...sounds like you have worked hard on him ! We train pups here so I know the kind of work & dedication it takes getting one to start early like you have done ...I trained my old Mafia dog completely alone , nothing wrong with doing that. Your pup should start ranging out more with age 7 mo is young for most just to be doing what he's doing...if he doesn't pm me & I'll give you some pointers.
