Question Need advice; pup starting to gnaw the tree

My pup is one year old. He started treeing at about seven months on caged released coon. Lately, he has started to gnaw the tree some. Still trees, but I think he has started a bad habit that from all I've could get worse. Does anybody out there have any advice about this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

!

I have noticed hounds do this more when it's HOT out. Im no expert and have experienced this as well, this is what i do. I use the leather end of the lead and give hound a little tap when they chew and a STEARN NO!! Seems to stop them from chewin sometimes. Sure hope someone has a surefire answer to put a HALT on the chewing!

Lightbulb gnawing the tree

Thanks Jason. You're the third person to cite the heat as a contributing factor. We have had our share since the rain has slowed.

Know a guy that was loosing money hunts because his dog chewed at the tree , had his eye teeth pulled...don't know about that extreme of measure but it worked. Dogs will chew more when there's sap in trees when it's warm some of them that do it won't in the winter. I'd try the wacking with strap or bumping with shocking collar first.
