dont beat on the puppy make sure you treat like you would one of your own kids... i've had some great dogs that was spoiled for the first 2 months of their lives

for me for years.....
1. I make everything fun for them. If they ever look like they are not having fun stop whatever it is you're doing.
2. Let um be pups. Play with them a lot, Lots of hands on and petting. calling their name all the time. Use simple names like Bo, joe, ...they are answering to sounds.
3. take them for walks in the woods as often as possible after snakes are in. exposing them to water, ditches, creeks, logs etc.
4. expose them to 4 wheelers if you ever hunt off them. I ride them in my lap as early as 8 weeks old and on up.
5. take them riding in the old truck if you have one in the seat with you.
6. I put a collar on about 12 weeks or earlier. Let them wear it a couple of weeks and then just stake them out or snap them to something where they wont hurt themselves. they will pull and jerk themselves and like a young colt. they will break themselves to the lead.
7. start working them on a lead and do this slowly until they are easy to walk. if they get crazy, just stop and let um pull for a while before they settle down.
8. start taking them at about 4 months in the dog box for short trips down the road to a field or woods and let them out. extend the trips longer and longer until they can go an hour one way and not get sick.
9. Dont expose them to any strange dogs outside of your own until they are at least close to 6 months old due to parvo or other transmitted diseases. Just a lick from a stray dog could expose them and kill them in a few days. seen it more than once. Keep stray dogs from the yard and pen area at all costs. even if they have been vaccinated.
10. treats are a good thing at all stages. Old Roy at walmart has some that are like dog biscuits that mine seem to like and great for rewards for coming to their name.
at about 4 months you can start training with long ropes etc about coming to you. I have never had to deal with this. Mine want to come to me cause I have made them want to please me since they were just baby pups. but others do it and it seems to work. Using a whistle when you go feed at 8 weeks and up helps train them to come to a whistle down the road when you want them back across a creek or come to you when they are out of pocket. always reward when they come to the whistle.

Other than that, thats about all I do before I start working them on a caged coon about 5 months old.

somewhere before that like at 3 months old I start working mine with a hide and lay a trail and stuff once they learn to start shaking and hating a hide. Just always make it fun.

cant pet um too much and love on um to much at those early stages. Letting a kid have a big time with them is a good thing.

Im sure others can give you some sound advice as well. I have trained a ton of young pups from birth on up. Done it this way every time and I have never owned a shock collar and I dont beat them. a keen switch on the nose when trying to teach them to lead or something after 4 or so months old wont kill um. a tip or two is all it takes. good luck.

Let them run loose , that's all you need to do they will learn the rest in the woods .

Team Boots has great advice...here we let ours run loose & give them plenty of attention. Teaching them from weaning age on the little things that make it so much easier when pup is hunting age .
Ways people spoil their pups...leaving them in th
e pen till a year old doing nothing but throwing some food out
Hunting with trash running dogs .
Hunting with mean dogs.
Petting them up @ trees when nothings there ,instead of leading away & sending on when they miss .
Them hunting with dogs when to young to keep up (gets them babbling & running dogs instead of coon)
Beating on pup when to young to know what it's even doing wrong.
These and many more ways to ruin a young dog or have it not turn out to be the coondog it could have been...
