I just had a litter of pups and all were black headed but the male I kept head has changed to red and 2 other pups have red heads now. Not sure about the rest. Both parents have red heads and I was suprised none were born with red colored heads.

Most are born black and white the ones that are going to be red head will start to change around 6 weeks but some take as long as 6 months old to reach there full color. The same goes for ticks most pups are born with out ticks and grow in to them. We always say blue ticks look best the day there born cause most look like black and white Walker pups.

Almost all Walker puppies are black and white, with some tan points. I've had some that had a LOT of red/tan in there head at birth. Usually by 2-3 weeks old you will see them change. They will have red all over the tops of ears, head, and around eyes. A true black headed puppy will be born with the inside tips of its ears black. If the whole inside of a puppies ear is red/tan, it is going to be red headed. Some red head stay real dark, or are an "inbetween" a red and a black, but those arre born with red on the inside of the ears also.
