Dave I'm glad you liked them, I posted the bear ones for you! LOL

Lee Thanx, we had jumped this cat first thing in the morning, it was -10 degrees and the dogs acted like they couldn't smell the scent. The older dogs were tracking off experience and sight. We decided to collect dogs up, drive into town and get breakfast. After a few hours of we went back and dropped the older hounds out and they still struggled. We kicked a few more dogs into the race as it heated up. Some of the dogs jacked the track and took to a hot bobcat track. The hounds that stayed with the lion wound up Jumpin him out of 3 trees. We gathered up the dogs that took to the bobcat track and were racing on our snowmobiles to get them into the loion race when wer were radio'd that he had jumped the 3rd tree and was headed to the ledges on the cliff. We scooted around the mountain to dump dogs in to the cliff to cut him off, right as we were getting to that point we were radio's that the cat had jumped from the cliff and just ran across the trail we were traveling. I was leading the race looked up to see the pack of hounds cross right in front of us. We dumped everything we had except for a few pups that were wore out from chasing the bobcat all day.

The hounds caught the lion in a raveen that was at the base of the mountain and the fight was on, we had 15 hounds on the ground. Imagine the best rodeo you have ever been to and times that by a Bagillion, it got Western!!! We were able to get above the Green Eyed Devil at the top of the ravean he was in. We have a lot of this on CD and tons of pics, I had a tag and my buddy that spot it was had is Bro in law with a tag. We had to hurry because the lion was spent and hounds had the upper advantage at that point. We did not want to kill a female, so I went in to see what sex the lion was. As I started going in it spooked the cat and he took off for a run right past my legs, I remember trying to hit its tail up with my hand to see what sex it was. I got run over by the pack of hound and as me and the hounds were chasing it up the hill he liffted his tail enough so I could see his goods.

It was determined my buddy's Bro inlaw would take the lion, the whole time this was being filmed and pics taken. He pulled out his semi auto 9mm took a shot and gun jammed, (being that it was minus temps all day he had sweated on the gun and when he fired the first round it cause the gun to freeze and jam) wounding the lion and chances of hitting hounds that were fighting the lion. Several of us were pulling out our revolvers attempting to give him a gun to finish the lion. He was able to unjam his gun and finish off the lion. While he was unjamming his gun I was able to get right in front of the lion and take some great pics just a few feet from him. My goal was to reach out and pet his forehead while he was fighting the hounds and have my hand in the pic petting him. Luckly the first shot broke his jaw because he cleared the pack and took a leep at me, Cotton and a Walker dog saved my hide by grabbing the lion by the hide and stopping him from grabbing me. Unfortunatley the pic where I had my hand held out turned out black because of me jumping back and holding the camera against me. I do have great pic of the Walker dog and Cotton grabbing the cat by the hide though

The lion weighed close to 170 LBS, I can't remember how long from nose to end of tail he was.

Anytime you guys want to come out and chase some biggame let me know. You haven't lived life until you pet a bear or pull on a lions tail

Dave- there are a good amount of coon here, better on private land than public land. Nothing like you would see in Indiana (coon seem to be a bit bigger here too) but I have a few honey holes that I train my hounds at. Coons are not native to Utah we can hunt then 24/7, 365 days a year.

blkd1- Glad you liked the pics and story! Theres so many more good pics and a great video of that hunt, definately one of the most memorable.

Dave it is nice, if I didn't have to work I would never stop hunting. It does have its perks but I always look for excuses to hunt coon back east! You get use to the snow, the hounds aclimate to all the seasons and game well. Speaking of snow I have 2' on the ground right now!

Here is some footage from a few years ago with Cotton showing how agile he is. I know its not the best thing to have a hound climb a tree especially in a Comp Hunt but watching him run up and down and all around in this tree was like watching a big Tom Lion moving through the tree. This was while I was out pleasure hunting by my self.

What reminded me of this was yesterday I was watching out the back window looking out at my horses and dog kennel when all of a sudden a big black thing jumped to the top of the 6' kennel, jumped off the top of the kennel and them proceeded to launch its self over the back 5' fence take off wide open.

It was Cotton and he was on a mission, it took everything I had to shut him down but I eventually got him back. I haven't hunted him to much the past couple months do to breeding him to 4 females. He was letting me know even though he will be 10 years old in 3 months he was bored and its time to get him back out hunting. He has always been a fast track dog and as agile as I have seen. He has lost a little on his voice but the silly sucker still runs around like he's a 4 year old hound.

Cotton when leaned out is a 85+ pound hound that is consistant in catching game. He has proved on many nights and days out hunting he has what it takes and its more than heart.

Dude, I just hate them leaning trees! I've seen too many fall out and die. But, it's hard to fault a dog with that kind of "WANT TO"

I crossed Cotton on to Ginger again, pups were born yesterday.

3 males and 5 females.

Only 1 female survived and will be keeping her if she makes it, I think Ginger was stressed, she didn't eat for a few days after she had the pups. All pups were born healthy, but she was in labor for over 24hrs.

Starting to hear good feed back on Cotton's pups that are 6 months old and hunting!!!
