It's like a dog guarding his food , a dead coon or his spot in the dogbox ... it doesn't happen overnight , you can be he's shown the signs for quite awhile and they were missed.

You will have to set him straight on all accounts ... he has to let you take his food without argument , teach him to sit and stay .. or shake hands ... and then get him back around a tree and lay down the law .. if you don't do your part , you will get him culled for allowing it .. if you do your part and it don't work , he got himself culled... good luck

Next time that dog snaps at ya grab his collar flop him on his back and beat the crap outa him.
Sounds harsh but not as harsh as what will happen to the dog if you let it go.

Go buy you one of those plastic baseball bats from walmart or the dollar store every time he snaps at you pop him on the head you dont have to hit him hard the noise it makes will give him enough of a scare. If that doesnt work and he keeps on you are going to have to make a decide if he is worth keeping. If he bites at you what would he do to another dog trying to tree with him?

Thats good he hasnt started on dogs yet but I think if you cant get him corrected he may progress into snapping at other dogs. Start first by taking his food away if he snaps give him a whack. Like others have said teaching him to sit stay and heal will also help no to mention will be a big help in the woods also. Being tight on money the plastic bat works well for things like that

Ive seen a lot of dogs do that and its usually not done because they're mean. Its just signs of a hard aggressive tree dog. When I say aggressive, I'm not talking about mean. If that's the only time he does it and is not showing to be ill towards other dogs at the tree, then I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep your hands out of his mouth!! Ive seen several nuts ruin nice young dogs beating them for this and theres no need in it. If they're mean, that's different.

no need to pet him on the tree, pet him when you are walking away from the tree when he is not barking.

Lil snapper

I have a male B&T that's around the same age. He's not aggressive, but every time I put my hand out he will "mouth" my arm. Looks like he's trying to bite me or someone else but that's just how he greets you.

If it gets worse i would get a switch and show him who's boss, but could just be how your hound greets you also. Good luck.

you aint hittin him hard enuff!! get ya a slat of hickory and feed him in his dish, when he goes to snap at ya whack him good then try it again. read the first post by dirtdevil again, then again. when you catch him on the tree, have your stick ready and make him cry a little. you aint gonna run him from treeing if hes a treedog, besides, its better then the alternative. be the alpha male lol

I personally never rev a dog up like that around the tree no matter the age for the reasons from your post. I am not saying your doing anything wrong that's the way I have always done it. And I only squal at trees during nite hunts. From your post it sounds like you have a radical tree dog that doesn't need much but a pat a the back . Get u a thin Willow switch and switch him across the nose every time he tries it or keep your hands away lol!! I personally would not worry about it either.

Thanks for all the info, I did go huntin last night and I went up to him and he didnt try to snap at me, so I back backed off and let him tree then I went back up to him and he did try to snap at me, I was gonna try the plastic bat but didnt have one so I took and empty two liter and smacked him on the head and he didnt try to snap at me again wen I started to get him off the tree. Maybe that will work.
