As the D. E. is given in the feed, you will KNOW it is working on the tapeworm, when you see the segments start to pass in the stool.
The Food Grade D.E., is a physical wormer, not chemical. It goes directly through the digestive track, cutting the worms and eggs, as it passes. To get a visual on how it works, imagine yourself eating a bowl full of peanuts......(sorry for that) but you know how that works. What goes in, must come out. As the D.E., enters the intestines, via the digestive track, it cuts the worms, or, through it's negative/postive charge, removes the foreign viruses or bacterias. If you see worms, especially the large tapeworms, you know you are removing them and it is working.
If you give the D.E. and within 24 hours, you do not see worm segments, you still need to give for a minimum of 3-5 days, to completely clear the digestive track.
With it being a physical wormer, it is NOT a preventative wormer. You can have a hound get reinfected on day 4 of treatment. That is why you continue to feed daily untill the worms have completely cleared the stool for 24 hours.
PM me if you have any further questions.....
