How long to breed?

What are the chances my female that is in heat is bred after a male dug into her kennel and was in for 15-20 min?

Its a 50/50 chance. A friend of mine had the same thing happen so he took her to the vet and they gave her a shot or something to stop the pregnancy. Only problem was it extended her heat cycle a week or two.

What was demeaner

Was he still trying to breed her or was he kicked back smoking a cigarette????????

If he was still at trying to breed her and you are sure it was no more than 20 minutes then I would say she is not bred.

If he didnt have much interest in her then good chance she is bred.

I went to 1 vet and called 3 others and all said the only thing that could be done is to get her spayed. I'm not interested in that.

Then, my friend, you have the same type vet I do, wait a week after she stops bleeding and get her to pee on a stick, like us humans do. I'd Google what the ways r to make her abort and call your vet saying "this is what I want done, can you do it?" And if not, tell them thank you, but your business will be going elsewhere, they tend to change their minds then.

I have used the shot before with no problems it is called lutalayse [ spelling ? ] it could might maybe cause the gyp some problems . I have known others that did it and no problems as well . but it has to be done within 72 hours to be 100% effective . their are several other drugs just google it . I don't remember all of them .

Let me tell you what happend to me before you decide to use that shot. On advice from a vet, they administered Lutalyse to my dog who was two weeks pregnant. Not only did it make her very sick, she was not the same dog for six months. It was the WORST decision I ever made. This is only my opionion and based on my experince but I will never do it again and would encourage anyone not to use it.

I agree if you was in the house for only 20 Min then you would have seen them knotted up, or most of the time that is about how long it takes

black and tan I actually can't believe a vet would administer the shot after the dog being bred for two weeks . all the literature calls for the shot in the first 72 hrs after breeding . I just had this done to my leopard hound gyp last month after that horny little mnt. cur hung her lol but I didn't wait the next morning I was at my vets and got the shot for 12 dollars and was gone . you couldn't even tell the gyp had been taken out of her kennel . but it does extend the heat period a couple weeks . and it's actually used in cattle horses and swine to induce heat for breeding . just a hormone shot bout all it is .

find a new vet . but that's where it has to come from . but if it's been longer than 72 hrs since the breeding I would just hope for the best .

thats right

i had one of my gyps bred by a heeler dog, i took her to the vet he gave her the shot, it extended her normal heat and she never came back in, i had her for over a yr from the time she went out, plus she also gained weight like a dog thats been spayed lol, couldnt work the fat off her and left a scar or dent at the injection site and left her hair there off colored like chocolate sorta, it did work, not sayin that all dogs will have the same outcome just what happened to me and a gyp of mine, if i remember right it was some sorta estrogen shot i may have the receipt ill chek and see

Do what you want but I personally won't give a bitch that shot. I've seen it and generally it messes them up later in life. Sure, it'll make 'em abort the pregnancy but generally they will have issues from then on out. Won't come in right ever again or they won't stick if they do come in. I've even seen dogs miscarriage and everything else. Too many hormones aren't good on their system.

And, in some states it is banned to use it on dogs for this purpose. I'm sure some people have used it with no ill-effects, but it has messed up about every female I've personally seen it used on. It may take a while for you to see the effects, but they will have them.

It's your female though, do what you think is best.

What breed(s) of dogs are they that got together?
