Seems to be losing that drive?

I've got an 11 1/2 month old blue dog. She went into heat a couple weeks ago and ever since it seems like she lost her drive or something. It seems like it almost started a couple weeks before that even. She has hunted with other dogs, been on a few trees, been on caged coons. She shows good potential but it hasn't been very consistent lately. Do I need to give her a break? I put her on the ground about 4 nights a week, whether its for an hour or 5 hours. She is in good shape and is healthy. Anyone experienced this or have any tips for me?

some gyps go a little nuts during the heat cycle . plus I don't know where you are located but it's hot , hot , hot where I am . that makes the dogs slack off a bit .

I'm in south Arkansas. We've had some pretty decent nights the past week or so....it's just discouraging to see her progression stop like this. Am I expecting too much out of her? All I know is I'm ready for her to turn on so I can go to the trees she's lookin up! Right now I'm just tripping over her in the woods...

Coming out of it I think...may have been a false heat. I understand that she is feeling crazy because she's never experienced it before but it's like it almost started before.

ive seen some females act just like your female is acting, sometimes ive seen it take a couple of months before they start acting right.she also might be a little burned out, shes still a puppy and its hot at night. if she was mine i would put her up a week or 2,i bet she will be a different dog by then.good luck with her.

Skeets, one of my huntin buddies that has ALOT more experience than I have said the exact same thing. Maybe that will do the trick! Preciate the tip!

Give her a few weeks. Most females act all out of sorts before, durning and after there cycles. My wife does it each and every month. Lol But all jokes aside she'll most likely be herself in a couple of weeks.

mr.whistlin dixie,i had a female that wouldnt hunt to good right before she came in heat, and sometimes she wouldnt hunt good after she went out,but their were other times after she went out of heat she would hunt fine never could figure it out lol.i had a young dog like yours that was doing really good,i was so excited that i started hunting him nearly everynight, even though the weather was blistering hot.after a couple of weeks hunting the hair off the dog,he just quit on me.i would turn him loose and he would just trot off into the woods and just stare at me,i couldnt make him go for nothing.i put him up for a week and the next time i turned him loose he knocked a hole in the dark and was back to his old self. when he got older you can hunt him all you wanted and it never botherd him, when a dog is young you can hunt them hard but you just got to watch more closely, especially during july and aug.

Shaw72 and Skeets....I believe that's what I'll do. I believe I'll just kennel her for a bit and see if that helps any. But what about her exercise? Seems like if you go about 3 days without letting her out of the pen she gets wound up tighter than dicks hat band! It almost seemed to break her spirit when I would give her breaks after a real long night of gettin after it

As a new coon hunter, I just don't want to make the wrong move and give her a setback. Supposed to be pretty warm this week so maybe it's good timing to let her rest. But you hit the nail on the head, she runs off in the woods and turns around and just looks at me!

I would still give her a few weeks off. I understand what your saying. My one year old female is the same way if I dont get her out. The first nite out she acts like an idiot, but she'll comes around pretty quick. Especially after she gets that taste back in her mouth. Good luck and keep us posted how she's doing.

4-5 NTS A WEEK MAY BE A LITTLE MUCH FOR HER PLUS THE HOT NTS. U MAY START HUNTING 2-3 NTS A WEEK AND SEE IF SHE HAS MORE ENERGY.ALTHOUGH FEMALES HEAT CYCLE DOES CHANGE SOME FEMALES HUNTING U MAY JUST TO NEED TO BE PATIENT WITH HER,I WOULD SLOW UP WITH THE HUNTING ON HER AND SEE IF IT HELPS MYSELF.JMO

First off...she's 11 1/2 months old!!! She's still a pup. This is her first heat cycle. She is bound to be off her game. I live in a house full of women. It can be nuts all month long if they come into heat one after another. Actually, each dog is a little different. Some are a little off the week to month before. Some are a little off the week to a month after. Kenneling her up till she's out of heat won't hurt her one bit at all. AND have patience with her when you do start her back hunting. She might still be off her game for a bit. She has a lifetime ahead of her.

i would consider this. i think the "just came out of heat" excuse is used way too much for females.

I know she's still a pup, I was just more concerned with her losing her drive. She used to be bawlin to get outta the box and on the ground and now she just gets a little excited and hits the ground only to stay under my feet

I only have 1 female in the house and that's crazy enough!

I'm confident she will get it back(if she ever had it) and it will start clicking to her. Just tough leavin her penned up cause I wanna go just as bad as she does lol
