Blake that is very VERY nice. I am doing the same type of set up at our new house this fall or next spring. That is one of those carport kits you see advertised everywhere isn't it? What size did you go with? How high is the sidewalls? Did the installation go smoothly and quickly with the company, or did you do the carport construct yourself? Thanks in advance for your answers. I was going to do the lean-to off the garage, but for a little more money buying the carport kit seems like a better idea...

Plastic panels are removable. Closed in winter. Each pen inside is 5x10 with insulated dog house. Heated water buckets. In northern Minnesota it gets COLD sometimes. I Like the out side pen, dogs seem more relaxed with being able to play and move around more then in their individual 5x10 pens.

Thanks man. There is a company down the road here that installs them and they are very good and timely at what they do. As for the size I believe it is 42L/28w/12h. You cant beat these carports kits.

We normally have all young dogs at this kennel and its not as high as it look most just climb up in them. Our other kennel is just like this but the houses sit on the ground inside of a building so the older dogs reside there.

Watauga River, like your set up too. Problem we have up here in northern Minnesota is the heavy snows we get. Were I live with the wind and snow I needed a set up like this. Two of my hunting partners looked at mine and now they have built the same outside pens. Different parts of the country call for different setups. I have about the same pen set up inside the shed as you do. pens are 6ft. high and outside wire is 6ft also.

Yea there is a septic system and drain that we spray into at the back of the kennels. Wouldn't have one without it now that we have different kennels set up like this.

I have about 8 foot of head clearance from the metal roof and you can feel the heat on those 90 degree days coming off the metal ! I suggest more clearance or insulate the roof! JMO

This is my kennel. I live in North Central Wisconsin and have to deal with cold, heavy snow and heat during the summer. I tried to design everything I could to deal with all these elements. It is 32' x 25' (32' long and 25' wide). The East end is the open end with the doors and the South is the half open kennel side. The North and West ends are finished off to deal with the winter winds. The outside runs are 4' x 12' and I had a 3' walk way with lights under the eves. The back is the dog houses and equipment area. We finished off insulating the back part and heated it with a wood stove. The dogs houses averaged 40 degrees last winter on the worse days. Didn't affect the beagles desire to hunt last winter. In fact they recovered from the day before better and had better endurance. I put a tarp on the south kennel panel to keep the South west winds out. This fall I will be installing metal spring doors on the houses entrances. There is a regular door on the West wall for entrance to the back. The roll up door was installed to put in bigger stuff in back, (dog food barrels, dog boxes, etc) The outside runs have lights that are mounted about half way to the wall. Oh yeah, also putting a t.v. in the back. Have to watch something when I fire up in the morning before work!

And the antis say we don't take of out dogs. LMAO! Bet there isn't one of them that would post any of these kennel pictures. These kennels are all top notch and I will bet that there are thousands of more that could be posted that are just as nice. Most hound people that I meet TAKE GOOD CARE OF THEIR HOUNDS.

When I built my kennel, I wanted something that I didn't have to worry about the bitter cold of winter, the deep snow, the direct heat of summer or the slop of mud and snow in spring. We just insulated and heated the back area last year, because I wanted to store all my equipment in there and plus if we got a pup or a young dog in the dead of winter, we didn't have to keep it in the house for a while. (I really hate cleaning crap out of the carpet) But with a building like this, attracts a lot of attention. Especially after our state passed the Puppy Mill Bill. Last year I had some people asking about my operation (their terms "operation") and even had one lady claiming she was a USDA inspector and wanted to inspect my kennel and dogs. She couldn't produce any identification so I kicked her off my property. I only have a litter once in a while, so it isn't like I am even close to the number of dog sales that would trigger an inspection. I like my kennel, it was well worth the time and effort that was put in to it. But sometimes with the attention it attracts, I feel like I should of built a privacy fence around it so no one can see in to it. But that would of probably caused more headaches, because people would think you are hiding something.
