Dc 50

http://www.outdoordogsupply.com/gar...o-dc-50-collar/

Anyone using ? Increased Tracking Ability: Garmin's Astro DC50 has a high-sensitivity, top-mounted GPS receiver (very similar to Garmin Alpha TT10 collars) is now enabled to receive signals from GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) satellites. This adds 21 more satellites your collar can connect with (in addition to the 28 satellites currently in the GPS system), helping eliminate dropped satellite connections in heavily wooded area and deep canyons, valleys.

Did you ever try one, or why didn't you like it, thinking of going that way.

Also do you guys that know more than me about these units think that the Alpha collars are ready for a new improved one or you think that it can be updated soft wear wise, The 50 sure looks like one, but the alpha isn't using the other 28 sat's, think that is a programmable thing?

Isn't it the UHF Signal that drops all the time? I have no issues with my DC 30 and the 220. I rarely ever lose signal, but I was sure I heard people tell it was the UHF, not the satellite signal?

I'm a captain on a riverboat and we use gps equipment & handheld VHF radios around the clock. The only we really ever drop gps signal is while we go under a bridge due to it blocking the signal. However our antennae is mounted on top of the wheelhouse which is 50ft high.
We have always had trouble with the handheld VHF radios which is the same thing as the garmin hand held. At About 1/2 to 3/4 miles the get real statically. So I believe the problem lies mainly with the hand held. Although thick cover I'm sure effects the gps signal as well.
I'm curious as to exactly how they upgrade the dc collars. Anybody have any idea?
