DC50 Review

If your looking for a Complete Top to bottom Review of the DC50 collar

Here is a link Garmin DC50 Review

Garmin has just released the DC50 tracking and training collar, the latest in its line of DC collars, and my field tests show that it offers several impressive advantages over its predecessors, the DC30 and DC40 collars. Combined with the Astro 320 handheld, your DC50 will provide vastly enhanced satellite coverage, much better handheld-to-collar reception because of its improved antenna, a Rescue Mode to automatically preserve battery power when you’re running low, and Bark Detection to keep you aware of your hounds’ behavior even when they’re far out in the field. These are the four most notable advances, but the DC50 comes with many more features you’ll appreciate as well. Read my whole review next, or zero in on a topic of special interest from our table of contents, and scroll directly to that topic:

I can't find any mention of a DC 50 on Garmins website. Can anyone provide a link?

New DC 50

How about more collar freq and less interference with other collars, any improvements in that area?

That would be the BIGGEST improvement that a new collar could bring to the plate or Garmin could offer, that is JMO.

One thing I am sure of is that everyone that owns a garmin tracking unit has dealt with this issue just about every turn out, excluding the Alpha, then again maybe this issue exists with it as well.

So the DC 50 is almost like the TT10 just don't have the shocker built in? And are they going keep making the TT10 and will the DC 50 run off the Alpha also? Thank you

Yes the Alpha System is going to be Garmins Top line system, The Astro DC50 will not work with the Alpha.

The Astro Systems are bound by some of the early decisions of how many dogs and the way the collars communicate. I don't expect the Astro to be able to track more than 10 dogs and you will still see some interference messages.

If your looking for less interference messages I would still definitely recommend the Alpha System

But they are still going to keep making the TT10 and are they going make one with a bark detection also. I figured they would quit making Astros by now.

Yes the Alpha and TT10 collars will be available, there is no plans to discontinue the Alpha or TT10 collars.

I'm not sure what will be coming for the Alpha TT10 collars but I don't expect anything soon.

Well, I am glad Garmin took my suggestion from a few years ago about reducing the update rate automatically when the battery on the collar was getting low! Wonder how much Garmin pays for user suggestions they actually use!!!
This is the only feature I see that gets me excited. I would not sell my 30s to buy the 50s but if I was starting out or having to replace a 30 I would consider the 50. Well, maybe I would'nt because then I would have to upgrade from a 220 because the 50 would not work with the 220.
Guess I will keep what I have until it starts to fail!

Sounds like Garmin needs to write a software update for the 220. I don't see people going out and buying an entire new system just so they can get a new collar.

It's interesting that Garmin is using the GLONASS satellites since they appear to be Russian own and operated. A Russian rocket just blew up today that was putting three of the GLONASS satellites in orbit. Garmin is a world wide corporation and the world is definitely getting smaller.
