what can you give a dog to give him alittle extra

it is hot here in Alabama and we are hitting a hunt 3 or 4 maybe 5 nights a week. jus wondering if there is anything that I might can do to give him a leg up on the competition. I know he sleeps all day god know I wish I could.

When I'm hunting mine hard or go off for a full weekend hunt I give them Pedialyte. Keeps them well hydrated and keeps their electrolytes up.

iv got a buddy that swears by vitamin B-12. especially during bear season when he's running everyday. says it really helps them out. i also know people who USED TO give the same to their game cocks. You can get it in pill form from like the GNC or other similar places and i believe you can get liquid form that you inject.

Keep him in shape.

Keep your dog in top shape and feed a good feed is best advice. I worked field trail dogs for 15 years and my dad before me.

take care Jeff

Give him that B12

Watch him fight. Feed him deer and watch him run them and to much deer they will fight.

Give to much B12 watch his kidneys and liver fail.

idk about all that them deer dogs we had got a good size meal everytime we killed one and they didn't fight. cant comment on the b 12 never gave that to anything. but I have gave them this stuff that is for horses its got all kind of vitamins and good stuff.

so you don't have to do any training for these coon dogs jus feed them coons jus not to many. unless you got a dog named killer

I have heard of giving them a couple packets of honey before a hunt. Helps with energy. I myself have used this with an older dog, I thought it helped.

Please listen

To much B12 will damage liver and Kidneys. Feed uncooked deer on a regular diet will make most dogs mean over time.

Red Cell is what you are talking about Jason. I could tell you more things you want to do but the personailty of your dog plays into it to.

Jason call me sometime I can help you without putting anything that will hurt your dog. Sometimes they need a rest also. 1-217-218-2251 after 6:30

I agree with my friend from Illinois that honey before a hunt will help. Back in the day I used honey on my swim dogs and seem to work well .

I've used B12 alot, on my dogs, on myself. Never saw any benefit at all. Tried about all the vitamins/additives out there, never saw any noticeable benefit from any and the dogs won't eat most of them anyway. Anymore, it's best quality food and not much more. But that's just me.

In MY EXPERIENCE,THE BEST THING, IS TO FEED THE DOG A HIGH QUALITY DOG FOOD. I NEVER USE FOOD THAT HAS CORN.THE CORN IN DOG FOOD WILL CAUSE DOGS TO OVER HEAT. I ONLY BUY FOOD THAT USES RICE AS A FILLER. THE OTHER BEST THING IS TO REST THE DOG. IF THE DOG IS A COON DOG,HE DOES NOT NEED TO BE HUNTED THE NIGHT BEFORE A NIGHT HUNT. TWO NIGHTS REST BEFORE A HUNT HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY BEST POLICY. THESE DOGS ARE FLESH AND BLOOD NOT CARS. B-12 BEFORE A HUNT DOES NOTHING FOR YOUR DOG. AS MY VET EXPLAINED TO ME,B-12 MUST HAVE TIME TO BE IN THE DOGS SYSTEM,THE DOGS SYSTEM WILL RELEASE IT ONLY AFTER THE DOG HAS ALMOST DEPLETED HIMSELF. IT WILL THEN GIVE HIM A BURST OF ENERGY. A DOG THAT IS IN SHAPE,BEING FED THE RIGHT TYPE OF FOOD AND IS GIVEN PLENTY OF FRESH WATER,WATER ,WATER HAS NO NEED FOR A BOOST. I HOPE THIS HELPS. PS GATORADE COOL, NOT COLD

yup, plus if you have a dog that has allergies in the summer or spring with pollen....local honey from your area will help make a dog immune to the pollen

Mr. Moore, How do you give the honey to the dog? Do you mix it with something? I have a dog that could use something like that for his vocal chords. Thanks

B12 is popular among the fox trials, and yes it darn sure works on a running walker on day 3 of a 3 day hunt. Seen it to many times. Good diet and conditioning is the most important but b12 works

Heard a story of a guy giving some white powdery substance to a dog once before a hunt. Apparently from hear say the dog dug a hole at the base of its tree knee deep.
But seriously if your dog isn't staying hydrated which is all it should need then I'd recommend buying better dog feed and taking all measures to hunt water and keeping your dog in shape by hunting them4-6 nights a week. Dogs need rest just like ppl I think 7 days a week is to much.
