water race

What can be used to make a float for the coon to go across the pond on. I had an old buddy make a mini pontoon boat a long time ago but someone else decided they needed it more than me. So since my buddy is gone now what do some other clubs use. I want to use one to exercise my dogs. Thanks for any help.

At the Heartland Classic they had a little float made out of PVC pipe and a piece of hog panel. I think it was 6" PVC with caps on them after a 90 degree bend. Then used a piece of hog panel cut to size to put the cage on and strapped it down. Worked really well. The trap still sat about an inch into the water.

This isn't the best pic but hopefully this will give you some ideas:

Our club has a post and crank behind dog box. Coon hangs on cable over pond and is cranked to tree. Like it better than floats.

We use a stuffed coon that floats.

I took a road Kill and skinned all but head out and Put a square 1 gallon water jug filled with foam insulation then hogringed it shut put hog ings in nose and head and back then attached string to it and a swivel on cable. Looks and swims like areal coon in water. with a 15 foot lead runs right up pole like it climbs up pole. Dogs go crazy over it.

When done throw in plastic bag and put in freezer till next time. No problem with game warden and permits ect.. To date coon snarls but has bit no one.

Food for thought, Jeff Ashmore
