Smelly dog, smelly dog.

I hunted a new property last night, don't know what the dogs got into but it smelled like they crawled through a manure spreader on the way to the tree. Wow.

Anyone have a good stories about stink?

Back in August '04 I had just bought a brand new truck and me and my buddy took the dogs out that night. It was a rainy night but real hot out the humidity was real high. Anyways my old redbone killed a skunk and of course stunk to the high heavens. I guess because of the humidity the smell kind of just clung to our clothes. My buddy said "maybe we should just ride home in our underwear" lol I said "nah it'll be ok besides what would we do if we got pulled over". Anyways I drove home but must have been immune to the smell by this time. As soon as I walked in the house my wife started yelling to get outside and get my clothes off, she said the smell was over powering. I had rolled the windows in the truck up bc of the rain and the next day was Sunday so it sat all day baking in the heat. She opened the truck door that afternoon and about got knocked out of her shoes.......needless to say the "new car smell" was gone!!! I heard about that one for quite some time.

Years ago I was training and hunting 2 pups together( first mistake) anyway they decided to kill a skunk, while they were in the process of that attempt I decided that it would be a good time to do some breaking(this was before shock collars) so I went in and and grabbed the skunk by the back legs (I don't advise this method anymore) and started to use the skunk as a club. I will tell you these pups learned to leave skunks alone, I also learned that the method worked to a degree but maybe there was a better way. Continuing on as I was hunting alone at the time I had no one to share the experience the pleasure of being sprayed by a skunk at close range, I got another idea. I went home and put the pups away took my clothes off out side and went in and crawled in bed with my sleeping wife. (SECOND MISTAKE) I tried to tell her I was going to take a shower but wanted to have her enjoy part of the experience first. After spending about an hour in the shower and looking like a prune she did let me sleep in another part of the house on the sofa. That was in 1967 or 8 and we are still married, BUT I never tried that breaking method again, NOR do I recommend it to anyone else. True story!

talking about bringing back memories, when i was in high school, in 1966, my brother and i found a road killed skunk. i used a stick to push it into a jar and put it on the bumper of my 51 desoto. we drove to the field where our school bus was parked. we put the skunk under a seat in the back of the bus. come monday morning it wa a cool spring day and the smell was just beginning to spread. all the girls were fusing about the stink. we got to school and the bus was parked in the lot, in the blazing alabama sun all day. when we got ready to load up and go home, it smelled so bad no one would get on. we had to wait for a bus to finish its route and come back for us. my brother and i laughed so much. that's one we got by with. we were the terrorist in our school.

I always carry a pair of rubber gloves in my gear bag so I can remove collars after the hunt off of one of my females. 90% of the time she comes back with some unidentified matter all over her and caked in her collars. She takes a time out at some point to make sure she is disgusting before we are done.

Was I on that hunt? The "spicy chicken" hunt with Klug?

Years ago Wimp Hylton made the long trek from Bland Co VA to Minnesota to enjoy treeing big coon. We had a one hour drive from my house to where we were gonna hunt. When we got to the woods we immediately cast the hounds. Dogs were struck right away and his 'Butch' trailed off by himself and got hooked in deep. With all of the excitement Wimp forgot to load up a chew of tobacco. We hiked in to Butch. On the way we passed where a farmer had dumped a dead cow. Wow was that smelly! Butch was treed about 100 yards behind the dead cow. Wimp was so proud of Ole Butch, treed in deep and lonely. He was petting Butch up like no tomorrow. Patting him all about the head, neck and shoulders. We started walking away from the tree and Wimp realized it had been a good long time since he had had a chew. He desperately needed one now. He hadn't had one since we left my house. He asked if I would lead his dog while he put a chew in. I took the lead and the first thing I noticed was how bad Butch smelled. About now Wimp realized that Butch had rolled in that dead cow and in petting the dog Wimp's hands got plenty of that stench on him. He was in a real conundrum, he needed that pinch of tobacco real bad, but wasn't about to put it in his mouth with those stinky hands. I am not about to put a pinch of tobacco in anyones mouth. He did finally talk one of us into holding his snuff bag up and he stuffed his face in there and got a hands free chew. He looked like a horse with it's head in the oat bag! We all got a pretty good laugh about Wimp, Butch and that pinch of tobacco....

lagoon

Was hunting next to a big dairy farm and cut loose next to some silage bags next to a draw. They cut across the field and swam right through the lagoon. It was awful.
