You Make The Call

Got down to a 3 dog cast after one withdrawals with 250 minus, the other 3 recast, two dogs tree and tree was scored. The 3rd dog was still tracking so the 2 dogs that treed are recast and all three tree with 5 minutes left in the hunt. Judge says since they are all treed you can handle your hound, but before anyone can handle their hound two dogs go at it as they reach the tree and the judge scratched both dogs for fighting. The two that were scratched wanted to place a question mark by the call and the judge did. It was taken back to the club house and was delt with.

My question is was the judge right for scratching their dogs after saying they could handle them, because one of the guys was upset because his dog was winning the cast before it got scratched and said once the judge says handle your hound that rule doesn't apply anymore?

You make the call.

It's right on the back of the card plainly stated. Rule 6(b).

Look for yourself and then you don't have to wonder if you got the right answer.

P.S......Authority of the judge starts when the MOH hands the judge the card and ends when the judge hands the card back to the MOH.

Jim,

I have only judged a few times and I made the call on this, but I just wanted to make sure there hasn't been a rule change that I wasn't aware of. I did use rule 6(b) to call this and even showed the boys the rule on the back of the card. But he was still pretty upset about the call. I guess you can't make everyone happy out there in a hunt. The only way to be is honest and call them as you see them is the way I see it, even if they get upset the rules are the rules and we all have to play by them..
