Nite Light vs. LED Lights For Shining Coon

Is it just me (and it very well may be) or are coon more apt to look at the older style (bulb type) lights than the LED lights? I used to be able to spot coon regularly but seems like ever since I got a LED light I have trouble finding the coon. Even with the leaves "off" I have looked right at the coon and not been able to make it out. Now, I love my LED for walking and it does shine well and long distances. Just having trouble and wondered if it's just me? Thanks!

i had a little trouble at first when i got my laser torch 2 led light. the led llight is a whiter light and brighter than the wheat head lights. i use the lowest setting like always and they tend to look just as well at led. then brighten it up. i have found myself using my old light more since leaves are on the trees. i can dim it down a little lower. but i love my laser torch

This question pops up on here fairly often. Some people agree with you and others don't.

Me personally I can find a coon with an LED light a lot easier. They just pop out to me better and it is a lot easier for me to distinguish between a coon and a knot on a log or a squirrels nest. A 5100 style head makes everything look yellow to me.

I am seeing more and more guys going back to the bulb heads. My hunting partner went back to his 5100. Me, I'm sticking with my Boss head. No way I'd go back.

I got my first LED a couple years ago and I feel like I can find coons faster. I like it alot better personally. My grandfather has a 28V Nite lite with a old style bulb and when we are standing next to each other you can hardly tell his is on. Same issue with my father in law but he likes the old style better than led, says he cant see as good with the white light opposed to the yellow and he also likes that you can spot down old style. But for me its all LED!

I'm

struggling with this too... I am having a hard time deciding to switch to LED or stay with a conventional bulb...

There are people that see one better then the other. Boss was the 1st to come out with LEDs that are 5100 color for the coonhunters.

I can definately see the body of the coon better with the old bulbs. No doubt about it.

However, they seem to look better with the leaves on at my green Catseye LED bulb.

But many people have trouble picking out the body of the coon with the LED light. Some get used to it.

For me I thought I got used to it until I noticed I saw one one night, I saw a coon look at me knew where it went to and never saw it again knowing where it was at. After that I started paying attention and I definately could see the body of the coons better with the old style bulb. I just thought I got used to it, in reality I just got used to having to struggle to make out the coon fur/body. When I went back to the old head their bodies just jumped out at me, but they didn't seem to look at it with their eyes as good as the LED, especially not as much as with the green catseye.

That's just me, everybody is different.

Where this huge misconception that leds are brighter then 5100 heads is beyond me.

I like my led

But I have a problem finding the coon if he is not looking with the led. As long as he is looking I have no problem burt if he isnt looking I have a hard time finding his body. When pleasure hunting I use the led and when comp hunting I always use the good ole belt lite.

guangzhouThe two lights I have had were the Blazer rectangular LED head and the I now have a G2 by K-Light. I also hunt with a guy who has a new Bright eyes LED, not sure which but it is the one with the small 25v battery pack, and it didn't bother my Garmin either.

Either one is good. I find most coons before I get to the tree anyway. Either they are there or not. I have the Brighteyes led head , I don't like for videoing or taking pictures or for taking pics of coon eyes up a tree , too bright to get the eyes shining to show up on a pic. Takes better pics and videos with the 5100. I do Love the Led Head for Flounder gigging . It will penetrate murcky water great. Small spot to concentrate on and brighter for flounder versus floodlamps, not 5100 but regular flounder lights, thats not as sharp and you're looking all over the place.

I just didn't like the color of the LED lights, so I got a Boss with the 5100 colored LEDs.Now I,ve got the best of both, color that I like, burn time and light weight.

Lowell,

I have a Laser Pro led light. I like it a lot. But is was hard for my eyes to get used to that type of light. It was not just shinning trees. So what I did was put an amber lens on it. This has made it easier on my eyes. I have no trouble finding coon. I pretty much never take the amber lens off, it is still brighter than most with it on.

Does anybody know where you could find an amber lens for the smaller led heads? I've got a couple different ones but should be a "one size fits all" type deal.
