need help dog millin on tree

I got a young hound that mills till you get in there how can I cure this..?If it trees first or by itself it does not mill but if another dog trees ahead of it he will mill till I get in there, then gets right on the tree....

Sounds like it wants to be independent but doesn't have the confidence yet. Try hunting it another month or two every night knocking out coons to it by itself.< or if you don't like independence tie it back and knock them out and don't let it have any of every tree it mills on. JMO

Grab him up, spank him back to the tree, put him on the tree and get him treeing on it right. In others words, express to the dog that milling is bad, on the tree is good. Really that simple.

problem being when I get to tree he rolls up and locks down.which makes it hard...I can just see him off tree when I am coming into the tree....

he have been bitten by another dog that becomes a gentleman / Lady when you approach ??? Then he knows it's ok to hug the wood ?? I'd hunt him alone to make him tighten up good, and hopefully forget about any bad situation then and only then ease him in to hunting with another dog.. If that doesn't work then it could be independance that lacks confidence....
